So, it looks like MERDC and NATO camo are the only two semi-historical options for HMMWVs in the mid-1980s. Here is the problem – I hate painting camo and even the NATO camo looks like a pain, (MERDC is an absolute no-go).

But with Team Yankee being fictional, any other potential options for easier paint colors? Olive Green? Others?
Thoughts?

If not, I may need to really need to get creative, "it just so happened that the Army was testing different colors and camouflage patterns when hostilities broke out. With no time for repainting them, a platoon of HMMWVs were deployed in Mountbatten Pink…", etc.

So just paint them green as new production. Scroll down in the link below to see an example.

I paint a lot of Team Yankee stuff for a regular client. To be honest, I just do basic four color camo freehand, and it looks okay, definitely not consistent from vehicle ot vehicle though. He seems happy with them, so that is what matters.

New or rebuilt vehicles came in Green. The same shade as the 3 color camo pattern. I.e. Green, Brown and Black. That is what generally we had '79-'90 …

Mid-80s is a bit early for the HMMWV (at least in Europe). Only HMMWVs I saw were getting tested at Graf, everyone lese had M151, jeeps. NATO three-color was phased in, the vehicles in my artillery battalion weren't re-painted until 1985. Go with a green.

mckrok, I said that same thing to my client. Apparently though in the Team Yankee world they are fully deployed.

In Ft. Riley during the early 90's all of our wheels were OD green. Ditto for the soft-skins at Knox. Most of our tanks were OD green too, but I remember seeing NATO 3-color too.

They would go beige for Desert Storm though!

So yeah, I would think OD green is fine. Besides, I doubt that the camo police will give you a visit anyway. So feel free to paint them. I'm with you on the camo, plus I like OD green too.
