Indeed. He'll "never do anything this size again" but he'll need a couple of smaller Soviet ships for Cold War Gone Hot. |

Bloody awful photography of the model. I could barely make out which Ark it was, still not sure. |

The RN used to have a 1/72 scale model of either Ark Royal or Eagle, built by apprentices. It was paraded around many county shows etc on the back of an articulated trailer, for recruiting purposes. I wonder what happened to it? |

As it says R09 in big letters on the island, I'm pretty sure it's the one commissioned in 1955. |

R09, yes, I had to look that up as I couldn't see enough of the ship to be sure. The model was still in its manufacturing location, was poorly lit and none of the viewing angles was particularly key in identifying her. The R09 was a facesaver. |

Since the model is carrying Buccaneers and Gannets I'd say it was pretty obvious which Ark Royal it was, even without seeing the pennant number. |

Oh for the new bloody British carrier(s) to carry something as good as a Buccaneer, rather than the pants aircraft it (may) eventually end up with! Never saw this Ark Royal in real life, only saw its replacement, now also sadly gone. But full marks to to the models builder, top stuff! |
