Ged proves even more prolific and last night sent me images of these two, 1st (did not know there was ever more than one regt, as I am a Waterloo buff) King's Dragoon Guards. These are of course from the Opium Wars range, but again I could see a far wider use for them.

The painting is very well done, but every time I see a horse sculpted with only two hooves on the ground I wonder how long it will be before one or both of the "ankles" breaks. Jim |

every time I see a horse sculpted with only two hooves on the ground I wonder how long it will be before one or both of the "ankles" breaks. I agree. Too many of my horses look like they belong on a carousel, because of the metal reinforcing wire I've had to insert to keep them from collapsing when picked up. These castings tempt me regardless. Picking up based figures, by handling the figures themselves, I desperately try to avoid. But then I only move them for dusting and the occasional swap, from display back to attic. I imagine if you throw dice and move them, often at the limits of your reach across a table, grabbing the figures must be irresistible. But I would be tempted to use thicker bases, that can be seized between finger and thumb. Finally the diagonal of the right forefoot and left rear on the ground does give some stability against lateral rotation |

thanks for the thumbs up on the figures chaps………just a note to say I use only the very best metal and have never had an ankle breakage in ten years of business..it helps that my figures are not spindly.. more Opium Wars figures en route! cheers Ged gringo40s.com |

NB just to mention in passing all the cavalry horses have a lug of metal on 2 remaining hooves connecting to the base..these are left on, so the figure is anchored on four points.this was removed by the sculptor for aesthetic purposes.! cheers Ged gringo40s.com |
