Thanks for the report. We really like TtS rules and use them for all manner of ancients and medieval games but for some reason I've never put my Crusades stuff on the table with them. I think your conclusion might be right. The differences in tactics and combat ability of such divers troops might be difficult to factor into TtS but, not impossible. Tinkering with the basic factors might create super-troops so I think you might need to be more creative than that – a built in 'hero effect' or two for knights initiating a fresh combat, to represent their crunching charge when their horses are fresh, perhaps? |

I think you'd maybe need something like a countercharge option. Or let lance-armed knights fight first even in the opponents turn. This would encourage the Arab/Turk cavalry to put a hit on them through shooting first. Evasion shouldn't really be the better option for Frankish cavalry charged by Oriental horse. The problem with adding any special rules is that it'd have a knock-on effect with the troop type used in other periods. And if it's crusades specific, it would have to be costed for competition purposes. I think for a main set of rules for crusades, I'll probably settle on a period specific set. It might even be Ager Sanguinis ;) |

Looks like we made a mistake with the rules. Knights can't evade in TtS. |

thanks for the report. We really enjoy To the Strongest. As with any relatively simple and fairly generic set, if there are things you want to model; about a specific match up, that may take some house rules. |
