…Kurdish Enclave At Afrim. "Turkey says it is getting ready to launch a massive assault on Kurdish forces on the other side of the border with Syria – potentially putting it in direct conflict with its Nato ally, the United States. This could be a significant new development in the Syrian civil war, which is now almost seven years old. We've boiled down why it matters. You can choose to read the short, medium or long story below, either by themselves or one after the other…" link Main page link

The Turkish are mad dogs when it comes to Kurds, not unlike Israelis regarding Palestinians… Simplest solution would be having a Kurdish nation but I'm not holding my breat regarding it. |

The Turkish are mad dogs when it comes to Kurds, not unlike Israelis regarding Palestinians… Dunno about that. The Israelis have tried "land for peace" since the 1993 Oslo Accords in which Israel agreed to recognize the Palestinian Authority and transferred local control of land to the PA. Heck, Israel even helped fund and arm the PA "Defense Force." That was 24 years ago. After lots of not-peace and more attempts to trade land for peace, in 2005 Israel even tried creating a defacto state of Palestine by pulling completely out of Gaza. Still didn't work. Gaza has morphed into a terrorist haven ruled with an iron fist by Hamas, and from which thousands upon thousands of rockets have been fired at Israeli towns and cities. So. Not quite the same. |

Well it seems that Syria is a toothless dog and it's bark is much bigger than it's bite. |

It looks more complicated. There're suggestions that Syria and Russia turned a blind eye on Turkish operations in exchange for pro-Turkish Syrian militants abandoning their positions elsewhere – like they did recently for airbase. It means that Assad can consolidate his Central Syria locations while Turks will secure border territories and prevent a formation of Kurdish "border forces" and autonomous region. However, too many times the things in Syria are not going according to the plans… |
