I would like to a few Bases for Rommel and was thinking of making them a little different from the line inf.
Any suggestions for figures?
Few companies do Italians at all never mind Bersaglieri so I'm thinking of a proxy with solar topee's possibly Baccus WW1 Turks but open to suggestions. In UK so I suspect GHQ would be a bit pricy and probably have customs charges.

Irregular do them.

GHQ do a Bersaglieri individual infantry pack with 60+ figures, and a Bersaglieri heavy weapons pack with about 50 models (LMGs, HMGs, mortars etc.) You can get them in the UK from Magister Militum and Wargames Emporium, £9.00 GBP-25 per pack. You're buying them inside the UK, so you don't need to worry about customs etc.

The GHQ Bersaglieri will feature the M35 helmet with plume. If you want the sun helmet, you might consider either the Baccus WW1 Turks (as you suggested), or the GHQ Romanian individual infantry and support weapons. The out-sized helmets of the Romanian figures serve reasonably well as sun helmets. But you would have to add your own plumes.

Converted mine from Heroics and Ros Confederates mainly. Filled in around hat centre with Miliput glued on with super glue gel, and then shaped with electric hobby drill using: small stone, then .8mm drill bit, then .5mm drill bit. Glue figures temporarily to plastic bottle tops and hold drill bits vertical above. Use hi magnify glasses unless your close up vision is very good indeed.

Takes a bit of practice, but very good results are possible. When finished, the easy part is adding the plume with a little green stuff shaped with toothpick and small sharp blade.

I did a lot of the broad Sunhelmet, including for my French WW2. If u don't have Confederates, a blob of miliput can be shaped using above method on just about any 1/300 fig.

Thanks for that I'll probably put in an order once the Heroics and Ros chaps arrive. Either GHQ or Irregular whoever seems to match best. Always best to wait a bit as I am sure to have missed something ands postage is a bit much for just 1 set. While it would be nice to have a look at a few of each option that could easily result in starting doing WW1 in middle east by accident.

I was genuinely surprised that more Italian options aren't available for North Africa as there were few battles where they were not involved plus Sicily, East Africa, Balkans, Russia and SCW possibilities as well. 1940s France didn't amount to much though.
Nothing better than beating an Allied opponent with Italian Infantry.

I think the GHQ Bersaglieri troops look pretty good. I have an Italian infantry force (not Bersagieri) made up of GHQ individual infantry figures, and I like their appearance quite a bit.

Personally, if I decide to go for Bersaglieri, I will choose the GHQ figures.

But the bigger challenge I see is that there are no Italian motorcycle troops in 6mm scale. None of the vendors I know of make motorcycles suitable for Italian WW2 motorcycle troops.

Side cars? You can get Germans or Russians on motorcycles with sidecars from multiple vendors. And I am not above reshaping helmets, LMGs, or other kit-bashing to re-purpose 6mm figures. But I can't find any suitable motorcycle figs to re-purpose for Italians, Bersaglieri or not. For Italians I want two riders per cycle, no side-cars, and some tricyclettas.

Sigh …

Heroics & Ros have new modelled Italian Infantry due out sometime this year, but what type I do not know. There was some pictures of some painted figures on the Facebook 6mm wargaming and terrain group back in November.

Well I have ordered some GHQ Bersagieri 1 inf and 1 support pack. I have also previously ordered some Heroics and Ros inf for the line infantry units.

I would also like some Motorcycles for Italians as a change from using Canadian Trucks. I knew that they are different as I have them in 15mm, finished just before we stopped playing FoW so they never used. Sigh.

Note to 6mm Figure Manufactures I would only want about 12 Italian M/Cs figures so if you do produce some do it out of a sense of completeness (or possibly OCD) not to actually pay any bills.

And to complete the madness I have just finished my 10mm Rommel Project which was "just" rebasing my French/German 10mms for Rommel which somehow resulted in buying some more Infantry, artillery, French Cavalry, M/Cs and German M/C from Pendraken. All very nice but the German M/Cs had separate sidecars and Machine guns, which was a challenge.

I am refusing to buy any DAK to help my Brave Italians as if I did then I would have WW2 Germans in 6/10/15/28mm scales which is just ridiculous, and they would steal all the supplies and glory.

Well I have ordered some GHQ Bersagieri 1 inf and 1 support pack. I have also previously ordered some Heroics and Ros inf for the line infantry units.

I find the GHQ individual infantry (and support weapons) to be delightful. Really, that's the best way I can describe them. They are such a pleasure if you like to be proud of the appearance of your armies.

I also have H&R infantry in my active forces. They were may preferred infantry in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and I still use H&R to build some of my forces even today, mostly because I find the combinations of poses in the H&R packs to be SO right for my purposes. I practice the same levels of skill on painting and basing them. They look nice enough, and I get compliments from gamers when I bring them onto the table. But they don't delight me every time I pick them up and look at them, like the GHQ figures do.

And … (prepares defensive positions for the impending barrage of expressions of shock and dismay) … I also mix GHQ and H&R figures. Frequently in the same force, and sometimes even on the same stand. In my Italian force, for example, I have gone with GHQ. But … GHQ doesn't give me nearly as many LMGs as I need for a properly modeled Italian infantry force. Here I mean conventional infantry. My Italian infantry is modeled in Continental uniforms according to the standard TOE, not the AS42 TOE derived from the TOE of the Bersaglieri for use in North Africa.

The Bersaglieri, being motorized troops, used a small unit TOE that was similar to other major combatants, and far more familiar to gamers, made up of rifle squads of about 10 men, each with it's own LMG team as part of the squad, with 3 squads (plus small command element) making up a platoon. This was done, I am told, to allow the small units to ride together in trucks.

The conventional infantry TOE was much closer to a WW1 organization, with a rifle squad of a bit more than 20 men, divided into two sections, and an LMG squad of about 20 men, divided into two sections of two LMG teams each.

With 4 LMGs per platoon, it takes a lot of LMGs to build up a correct Italian infantry force. So my infantry force has H&R LMG teams as well as GHQ LMG teams. Just needed more, and had already bought some H&R Italian infantry before I decided to go with GHQ.

At least that's how I have done my force. Hope you will be as pleased with yours as I am with mine.

Just make sure at least 50% have their arms up in surrender poses! LOL. Cheers!
