Are you happy with the ruleset(s) you are using, or are you still looking for the right set of rules?

Still trying to work out which version of BT the local lads are using.

Mech Attack! by Armor Grid Games is everything I want for my mech games. When I want to go even smaller scale, Panzer8 works well.

The rules for Robotech RPG Tactics are surprisingly good (and cinematic, even), but the lack of variety in models makes games less so. The Zent fighters, power armors, and light infantry aren't out yet.

IMO … the best I've seen were the original GW Adeptus Titanicus with Codex Titancus supplement. But that was a long time ago. But I will admit, I'm not really a fan of anything that big on the battlefield … just a big target.

But as with all Sci-fi … it's about how much you want to "suspend" your concepts of "reality", etc. I.e. what is or could be real(?). Based on you own "tastes", knowledge, experiences, etc., etc., …

Back in the day I played the hell out of the original Adeptus Titanicus, which aside from some sketchy bits in the rules, played fast, fairly smoothly and allowed for a bit of crunchiness. Later variants seem to have upped the complexity without necessarily making it a better game. The IGYG order system was probably dated back then, but could easily be changed for something more contemporary.

I like BT, though I still find the whole perfectly ablative armour and strange autocannon ranges a bit weird / annoying, but I can suspend reality! Played a bit of BF2 which I liked. I can see why people are going for Alpha Strike though I've not played that (yet).

Yes, later versions of Epic Titans, etc., i.e. SM2/TL … IMO … well the entire system was "weak", etc.

Interestingly we dropped IGYG from SM1/AT. We were long time gamers. So saw IGYG as not a very "good" system overall, all things considered.

Always thought BT was a bit too complex for what it was trying to represent. But that is just my opinion. BT has a very large following.

Very happy with the home brewed rules we use.

I'm satisfied with not having any.

I've gone from BT to Mekton Zeta to Heavy Gear and Jovian Chronicles. I rather like all 3, but each has their pros and cons.

I really liked some of the things that Mekton Zeta did such as more realistic units of measure and flexibility in actions. I should re-read those books.
