What is your favorite set of rules for the zombie genre? I have yet to find one i loved. And I start up work on my modern city table again id love to have a rule set in mind.

I am biased -- as one of the authors -- by have you looked at the FREE zombie supplement for GASLIGHT? You can download the GASLIGHT quick start guide and the zombie supplement for free from DriveThru. Then if you like what you see, you can consider purchasing the full rules. Not only are the rules good for zombies, but they were designed for Victorian science fiction skirmishes, VSF big battles, VSF role playing, fleet battles, and Pulp games.

Surprised no one has chimed in with All Things Zombie by Two Hour Wargames. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it works for me. (BAM! million dollar rap music career right around the corner.)

You play solo or all players on the same side vs the zombies? Gothcha covered. I've played at a convention with about 20 people around the table, all vs the zombies (at least for a little while, it became a free for all half way in).

You don't have total control of your minis, they may not activate next turn or they may run away when you want them to charge.

The dice mechanics take some getting used to, and is probably what turns most people off. Dice are used 3 or 4 different ways depending on what's happening. After a few small games, it starts getting easy to remember.

There are a bunch of charts, but they are there if you need them. Most of the game is played with only a few charts. The design concept is that the rules are a toolbox, use what you need, leave the rest.

There's a free version so can take it for a spin: link
Get Chain Reaction for modern, or Sword Play for more hack and slash.

ATZ for all the above reasons. The reaction system for resolving combat is different and not obvious but the rules take you step by step through the process. Most of the process is waived if you are just fighting Zombies.

The bulk of the rules are just campaign ideas or rules for unusual events. These can be used or discarded at will. All told, it plays a fast fun game. To me, the greatest strength is the option for solo, head to head or team play. So far, it is the best solo play system I've seen in 40 years.
