If you are away from home on a vacation, do you bring minis along to paint?

Personal logo The Nigerian Lead Minister Supporting Member of TMP10 Jan 2018 9:36 p.m. PST

I have a few times, but it's perhaps every few years and it isn't a common occurrence. Too much to take along unless I'm doing a set with a limited color pallet. But it's fun when I do.

BrianW10 Jan 2018 9:55 p.m. PST

No. Like the Minister said, too much stuff to take along.

Old Contemptibles10 Jan 2018 10:32 p.m. PST

No

Grelber10 Jan 2018 10:44 p.m. PST

Agree, too much stuff to move. I have taken knives and files along to prep figures. I live in Colorado (2 km above sea level) and have considered taking primer on a trip to lower, warmer Kansas when we have a long stream of days when it doesn't get above freezing. That isn't a problem this month.

Only if I want my wife to beat me to death. I have done it on trips to schools where I'm away from home for more than a couple of days.

Razor7811 Jan 2018 3:04 a.m. PST

I take some when I travel for work, but not on vacation as that would not go well with the wife.

On occasion

More likely when on business trip

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP11 Jan 2018 4:14 a.m. PST

I've taken plastic multipose figures to assemble but never anything to paint.

surdu200511 Jan 2018 4:40 a.m. PST

On a long business trip, I have taken figures to paint in the hotel room. More frequently I bring figures to file and prep. Never on vacation.

Vigilant11 Jan 2018 4:59 a.m. PST

Couple of times on business trips. Took some aircraft to decal when I went to Fall In in 2007 but forgot the decals! Ended up running a game with them instead.

PzGeneral11 Jan 2018 5:13 a.m. PST

Nope.

But I have taken a "Stay-cation" to paint…..

And did a lot of painting during the 3 months this summer I was unemployed…

Short business trip where I can bring a focused bit, yes.

Vacation driving, yes. Vacation flying, no. Too much stuff.

wrgmr111 Jan 2018 7:28 a.m. PST

Yes, on vacation now. Painting Front Rank Burgundians.

Mostly I trip flash and prep on the road. Sometimes prime.

What etotheipi said.

Nope my wife schedules so many activities on vacation there is no time or energy left to paint.

advocate11 Jan 2018 10:27 a.m. PST

I have done in the past, if it's going to be a beach holiday.
I've always limited it to a particular set of uniformed figures, so a limited paint set.

jefritrout11 Jan 2018 10:31 a.m. PST

I have discovered that I never have time to paint even though I have brought figures along. Prepping figures and priming I can get done, so that's it for now.

General Kirchner11 Jan 2018 10:59 a.m. PST

I have on a couple of occasions done this.

Wife's family reunion camping, i got in a couple of hours over two days in the afternoon, when the it was hot and most of the adults were napping and the wife and her sisters were playing cards.

I had to go help with some additional adult leadership at scout camp a few times, and would paint while the boys were in their merit badge classes in the mornings after breakfast.

i have learned to pack a small case with certain paints, certain figs, and a few tools, and limit my scope to this.

As long as i set the expectation, and don't impact the "important" events, it works.

Sometimes. It really depends on where I am going and what I plan on doing. The biggest problem I have is getting good lighting. Last time I took minis on a trip I decided just to paint the major colors because the lighting was not sufficient for any decent work other than that.

Syrinx011 Jan 2018 5:35 p.m. PST

Only figures for prep or assembly if driving and staying in a hotel. An occasional vacation back when we had planned naps for the kids. After that age passed our vacations never had any downtime planned.

saltflats192911 Jan 2018 8:02 p.m. PST

I did it once about 10 years ago. I have never used the figures, so I guess it wasn't time well spent?

Kevin C12 Jan 2018 4:18 p.m. PST

What is this vacation of which you speak?

saltflats192912 Jan 2018 11:29 p.m. PST

Vacation= why you work 51 weeks a year to travel to someplace full of people that live there year round.

Oberlindes Sol LIC Supporting Member of TMP13 Jan 2018 9:56 a.m. PST

I have never done it. I have, however, gotten a lot of painting and model-making done on those occasions when my wife has a month more time off than I do.
