"Black or Brown Boots?" Topic

Happy New Year guys. Well, going over the painting of the Bolt Action Start an Army box German Grenadiers uniform that I plan to use for Late war European scenarios I came to a dilema. Black or leather brown boots? To be or not to be? they are supposed to be black boots worn over the trousers but in the Warlords minis and the images and the pamphlet included they are wearing anklets and brown "boots" (they look more like shoes for a high school "prom" specially in black color). So, what is the right color for their footwear historically? Thanks for your advice.

Jackboots – black
Low boots w/gaiters – brown

So what units wore the black ankle boots? SS or early war?? Or is it simply incorrect reenactment equipment? I will have to repaint my Grenadiers as I have used black. Having seen illustrations of them I thought the black boots would be a good contrast to the American boots. oops!

Came from the factory brown were blackened by the soldiers if they had the polish

Houdini, the models are the ones in the Bolt action Grenadiers start an Army box, they are mid-late war(I guess) with low boots and gaitiers. Thanks guys for the advice, I will paint them with Vallejo Leather brown.
