Colonial Adventures from Rebel Miniatures (designed by Two Hour Wargames) might suit your desired game size. It uses the Reaction System of Chain Reaction etc, which not everybody likes. You can download free versions from the THW site, which I recomend if you aren't familiar with their games.

Second that.

I have a copy of Colonial Adventures but I thought it dealt with larger units. I'll check it out as I do like their FNG rules. Thanks!

I see that you tried TSATF some time ago but have you looked at their The Sword In East Africa varient for WWI in East African?

Buckeye AKA Darryl06 Jan 2018 6:13 p.m. PST

I think that a variant would still feel too clunky, perhaps? What makes it different than TSATF?

I'll third the "Colonial Adventures." Perfect for players commanding a dozen or two figures.

The Men that would be Kings from Osprey or Blackpowder.

Buckeye, it the THW rules don't do it for you I'd suggest The Witd In Africa. They are TSATF little brother set designed specifically for small Skirmish Afruca exploration and adventure type games. It's like TSATF light. Each unit is 10 men, gun crews 3 men. Each player fields 3-4 units. Have 2-8 players, the games are big fun.
Cheers,
JB

JB – I just did a search for The Witd In Africa and didn't find anything. Where can one find those rules? Thanks!

He ruled out TMWWBK as neeing too many figures per player for his needs….

SgtGuinness07 Jan 2018 4:03 p.m. PST

The set is called The Sword in Africa. It's a mini set of rules made up of a few pages which is included at the end of the 20th anniversary edition of the main The Sword And The Flame Rules book.
Cheers,
JB

Oh, so I would need to drop $30 USD for TSATF to get them…I'll hold off for now. Thanks for the info!

Death in the Dark Continent might be worth looking at. Very much pitched at the sort of actions that the Germans found themselves fighting, and good for intertribal scenarios, too.
