It seems these rules are out of print, with no plans for a reprint or pdf. I assume unless things change support for these rules will gradually wane as there is no way for new players to get in to it. What are the options? To the Strongest, Impetus 2, the various Warhammer clones. Is DBMM still supported?

Nik Gaukroger06 Jan 2018 5:39 a.m. PST

I am rather surprised that there are no plans for a reprint. From what I can see ADLG is currently having something of a boom in popularity – a good time to be selling it.

Fred Cartwright06 Jan 2018 6:44 a.m. PST

So Nick Eyre of North Star tells me. They are currently out of stock and he has been informed there isn't going to be a reprint anytime soon.

Out of print?
Well, that tears it.
Everyone who is now playing and enjoying it are morally obligated to switch to the latest new shiny game.

Cerdic06 Jan 2018 7:10 a.m. PST

Looks like it is eBay time, Fred…

I heard this is the third complete print run that's sold out, sooner than expected so there will be a delay before another run will be available.

kodiakblair06 Jan 2018 10:54 a.m. PST

Should have put my £20.00 GBP copy is in Scotland if anyone's interested :-)

Add Sword & Spear and (Big Battle) DBA.

I've played quite a lot of ADLG and it is a fine game. I have recently, however, come to prefer Mortem et Gloriam, which is just much more entertaining.

3 reprints must mean that there is something of the order of 5,000+ copies out there in circulation – and fun as they are, I'd bet that there are quite a few "rules-buyers" who've either found them not to be their cup of tea, or never gotten round to playing them and might consider selling.

And even at £50.00 GBP it's still cheaper than most other sets once you consider the costs of rules, lists, special dice etc etc… and you know that if you don't like it there is a good chance you can sell it for what you paid!

My other guess would be that the FAQ for the English version is now also sufficiently substantial that the author might also be considering whether to incorporate it into a "3.1" or just run with a 4th reprint.

Is DBMM still supported?

Well yes. Active DBMM list on Yahoo Groups still quite busy if you want to ask any detailed questions.

Cheers,

Would be nice to see ADLG in pdf.

Frank Wang07 Jan 2018 10:21 p.m. PST

I spent almost 50 GBP to get a copy of it, year ago. Lucky me.

Brownand08 Jan 2018 2:53 a.m. PST

a pdf would be good but not at GBP 50

madaxeman08 Jan 2018 4:03 a.m. PST

link was a snapshot of the UK competition scene last April.

Since then it looks like ADLG has risen from 130 to 180+ players, FoG has shrunk a tad from 90 down to 80-odd, DBMM and DBM have stayed literally flat at 80-odd and 50-odd respectively and MeG has crept up a little from 31 to 49 UK players.

Marcus Brutus08 Jan 2018 5:56 a.m. PST

I notice madaxeman that you don't include any information on British Impetus tournaments. Since I see them up on the Impetus Forum I know they take place.

madaxeman08 Jan 2018 3:31 p.m. PST

Well, I would but based on the Impetus forum there appear not to be very many of them – possibly only 2-3 events each year in the UK, with the field of 18 at York last year being by some margin the biggest event.

If the 3 events and the pool of maybe 20-odd Impetus players that appear on the forum is correct, that makes the entire UK Impetus scene smaller than some of the individual competitions for the other rulesets – and given its hardly now a "new" ruleset it would probably be fair to suggest that Impetus won't be making up any ground on the more popular rulesets anytime soon.

There are also circuits for WRG 6th, 7th and Armati, all of which I believe are both more active and larger than for Impetus, but which are even harder to find out public domain information about.

I do have comparative stats for Derby where Armati had 14, 7th had 10, 6th had 18 and Impetus had 12. Impetus was however also only 1 day, where the rest were all 2-day events.

If anyone is still after a copy I was in Entoyment in Bournemouth today and they still had a copy on the shelf – for£25. Might be worth giving them a ring as they do postal orders.

madaxeman17 Jan 2018 11:00 a.m. PST

I hear on the grapevine that a 4th re-printing of the rules is underway … hopefully it will be with North Star (and then to your FLGS) in 3-4 weeks!

NickNorthStar30 Jan 2018 2:51 p.m. PST

Good news.

The author is going to reprint. We'll be getting the English language version soon. No date yet.

Unfortunately because it's a smaller print run, the cover price will be higher.

It has arrived early. It's on our shelves right now.

Empgamer11 Jan 2020 5:52 p.m. PST

AFAIK they are available in PDF for £5.00 GBP pending the next reprint.
