Have you ever bought miniature figures from a professional painting service?

(a) Yes, and I will continue to do so.
(b) Yes, but never again (explain why)
(c) No, but I have considered it.
(d) No, I am content to paint my own miniatures.

A. yes, have used a number and generally satisfied except one, I gave him 2 Fire & Fury Corps of Confederates, paid 50%…..then never heard from him, phoned and harassed him a few times (you know, being a thief and a liar), to no avail. That was years ago now….I keep track of him….

The overseas service I've used a few times is PhilGreg and they are terrific.

Kevin C01 Jan 2018 11:59 a.m. PST

That's cheating.

A,

but I agree with Kevin C's response. It feels like cheating, but I have done it, and will do it, lots. They are great when circumstances don't let you do your own.

C).

I always kind of thought of it as cheating, but I admit I would use a service to help bulk out an army. I jsut never have.

I have purchased minis painted before, but the fact that they were painted was largely incidental.

skipper John01 Jan 2018 12:30 p.m. PST

A. But it is not nearly as satisfying, nor do they fight as well…

C I have toyed with idea several times but never pulled the trigger.

Jcfrog01 Jan 2018 1:12 p.m. PST

Yes.
First time a crook from Wales…
Second time French ok at beginning then erratic.
Then now same one since 2000+ most years several times a year.

D. Can't afford to pay someone to paint my figures and I enjoy painting them myself anyway.

A – in my case, Reinforcements by Post; while I love to paint I don't love to paint 6mm Napoleonics so much I won't pay someone to paint them for me

brass101 Jan 2018 2:39 p.m. PST

A – my one and only experience with having someone else painting my miniatures was with a local guy whose prices were low but whose talents were on a par with his prices. I am not opposed to dealing with a more professional service and will probably try it at some point but at present I don't really need it.

personally I have paid to have figures painted but only on a local level. That said 2 of my gaming friends have used a certain Sri Lankan service and have been 90-95% satisfied with results and most assuredly the work they have had done was finished 4-5X faster than they could have done themselves maybe even faster

As I get older and other interests are taking more of my time I am painting a lot less. So yes I am considering a painting service for my lesser interests era's.

E. I enjoy converting and painting my own miniatures. Content sounds like I am settling.

Gildas Facit has done all my 6mm Napoleonics

DJD has done some of my Horse & Musket Imagi-nation stuff

Both extremely good and I'd still be throwing money at Tony if he hadn't gone and semi retired… the bounder!

Grelber01 Jan 2018 8:04 p.m. PST

A, I suppose. I had Howard Whitehouse paint one 28mm figure for me. He does stripes on clothing much better than I do. That said, I really don't have the money to have lots of figures painted, so it will probably never happen again.

I've always found painting very therapeutic. It's probably what I enjoy most about the hobby these days.
