So, how would you put together a VDV proxy list using Team Yankee units? The guys want to play Team Yankee. Can't really do leg infantry in Team Yankee. So, BMDs sorta equal BMPs (and smaller model count per stand)? Proxy the ASU85s as the AT6-armed MT-LBs? The killer part is the tank support. VDV would have had T55s in their reinforcing troops (mostly Naval Infantry, at that), so that actually means I'd need to use the East German list (but the East Germans don't have the AT6-armed MT-LBs)… Too many questions, not enough ideas. What does the TMP Hive Mind(tm) suggest? |

You could do the VDV unit as an East German BMP-1 formation with an E. German tank company, or you could match-up a Soviet formation with a E. German one. I would be inclined to use the E. Germans for VDV troopers because they have higher skill ratings. VDV troopers tend to be better caliber troops than your run-of-the-mill Soviet conscripts. This page shows the new force charts for each existing force. They added the ability to take an allied formation. link |

OK, so East Germans as VDV isn't as bad an idea as I thought. It's looking like a BMD Regiment would have a company of ASU-85s in support, so ~3 ASU85s per BMD Battalion. At least according to my pdf of Army FM100-2-3. Thanks! |

No need to proxy, you can buy all you need from Armies Army in the UK, who do all the vehicles and infantry you require (in 15mm) link |

I don't think Lion is talking minis JARROVIAN. I think he's looking for Team Yankee stats for his VDV troops and gear. BF hasn't quite gotten around to VDV paras with BMDs yet. I would suggest Afgansy troops because they are VDV, but they are only chopper borne light infantry. Not the mechanized types you're looking for.

It's still pretty off though. |

Ah, my mistake, I was never bitten by that Team Yankee/Battlefront bug. |
Lion in the Stars | 01 Jan 2018 7:57 p.m. PST |
Yeah, the guys like the Team Yankee/Battlefront rules. So if I want to play, gotta play BF. Biggest issue is the infantry, VDV don't use the PKM. I was already planning on buying a bunch of stuff from Armies Army for this. A company of BMD-1s, extra AGS17s and SA14s, 8x BTR-Ds, 3x 2S9 mortars, 3x ASU-85s. Current list is looking like this: Battalion HQ 3x minimum "BMP-1" companies each w/ AGS17 team and SA14 team (carried by BTR-Ds) 2S9 mortar platoon (counts-as 3-strong BM21 platoon) ZU23 on BTR-D (counts-as 2-strong Shilka platoon) ASU85 platoon (counts-as 3-strong T55 company) BRDM-2 Spandrel platoon (3-strong) 2S1 Carnation battery (3 guns) Su25 Frogfoot flight (2 birds) Mi24 Hind company (2 birds) works out to ~55 points. Doing a little kitbashing, mounting QRF ZU23s on AA BTR-Ds to make my "Shilka"s. It's not quite right, a BTR-ZD doesn't have the radar and only 2 barrels, but it's as close as I can get. A T55AM2 has far better armor than an ASU85, but the gun is about right. The ASU85 has better armor than a PT76 or MT-LB, and the 85mm gun isn't anywhere near as potent as the AT6 missile. |

I really like the looks of those data cards ! |

Wonder when Guards Parachute units are gonna show up in the TY universe,or for the GDR,the "Willi Sanger" regiment. |

@L4: yeah, the Team Yankee data cards are generally a big step up, made it much harder to forget some rule. |

Perhaps get some Mi-8s? Some guys have done some stats for them. I don't personally play FoW, but I understand there is no Mi-8 which seems like a massive oversight… This is one of the data cards I think have been made by the online community, including Mi-8 stats:

@Lion in the Stars I think Keith at Armies Army did the BTRD with the ZSU-2 in the original kickstarter, so it might be worth sending him an email |

Wonder when Guards Parachute units are gonna show up in the TY universe,or for the GDR,the "Willi Sanger" regiment. LSTRs were entirely airborne leg infantry, which sort doesn't exist in TY universe. On the other hand BF could do Guards VDV and Polish 6th Airborne Division as the poor Pact cousin. |

And they don't necessarily have to be wearing those light blue berets, the airlanding leather helmets would work just as nicely. |

Mi8s would be interesting, but who does them in 15mm? QRF? Does anyone do them in plastic (or resin)? I don't mind metal helos (I have a couple of QRF's OH6s), but the bigger models are hard to keep on flying bases. I'm actually glad I put as much detail into my organization post as I did, the planning file on my computer died. |
