That does not surprise me … many like to show their knowledge/they are well read, etc., which is fine. We should all be interested in furthering our knowledge, etc. However, the net gives [too] many a free "one can be rude, insulting, etc., card " when commenting on anything … As there is no real "punitives" generally.
