"The document is from the Cold War. But the material it teaches is still being used today by Vladimir Putin's clandestine cadres.

This is the first of a three-part series based on never-before-published training manuals for the KGB, the Soviet intelligence organization that Vladimir Putin served as an operative, and that shaped his view of the world. Its veterans still make up an important part of now-Russian President Vladimir Putin's power base. All were trained in the same dark arts, and these primers in tradecraft are essential to an understanding of the way they think and the way they operate.

U.S. intelligence operatives understand this only too well. Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told CNN earlier this month Putin is "a great case officer," suggesting he "knows how to handle an asset, and that's what he's doing with the president"—that is, the president of the United States…"

Shouldn't come as a big surprise though.

I recall reading in Spanish decades ago their "guidelines" for using associations and groups of the "disenfranchised" as recruitment opportunities. Both the existing ones and those organized solely for that purpose.

It made perfect sense to them to use the activists for their ends, and the louder the better, even though they were quickly tossed aside later, or put on their list of people to watch.

The key was to make sure no one was ever able to figure out that the various groups were receiving funding and "guidance" from the same source.

But their biggest prize was to recruit people who had friends or relatives in mid-level government jobs and access to communication lines.

What Yuri Bezmenov said is still very much in line with what we now know of the Cold War KGB (and Communist China):

Reminds me of my favorite Cold War spy series, "The Americans" …

Not familiar with it. Is it new?

By the way, when we were living in New Orleans my Dad hired a couple of guys who had been political prisoners in Cuba and who were expelled in the early 80s (the "Marielitos" refugees).

They had some interesting stories about how the government planted moles in their groups and how the moles fed information for years, little by little. They also told us how each neighborhood had residents that were government informants, and how they kept track of who came and went, and relayed any gossip they heard.

Man, I can't wait for the other Castro bastard to croak.

After ww2, for a long time they held by the ( anatomy- unamerican- to say) of many French, Italians etc. politicians, high ranking ( might have been low ranking in ww2) public servants ( self serving or not).
The Germans, not very astute in strategy, were very efficient in bureaucracy, wrote everything, and brought it back to Berlin.
Guess who took Berlin?
Polizei, denunciations, collaboration, rewards etc…. Even the sons whose father went up, helping nicely…
Lots found in the 90s clamped down by executive orders…who were not immune to the files found.
