If you had to pick only one, what would your favourite "family" of rules be? I was thinking of such things after recently completing the boardgamegeek 10x10 challenge link since I have played very different rules covering the same subjects this year.

"Families" might be such things as:

DBx
FoG
TooFatLardies rules
Neil Thomas' rules
Charles Grant rules
Warhammer rules
Warmaster / Black Powder rules
THW "Chain Reaction" derivative rules
Polemos rules
The "Rampant" series
etc.

I know there are lots more out there but I am sure that you get the idea.

And I'm enjoying the "Dragon Rampant" rules.

This isn't all that easy to classify.

What "family" are Ogre and GEV?
What family is Space Hulk?
I love my own GOBS space combat rules, but are they part of any family?

Just not sure where to go with this poll.

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP24 Dec 2017 5:05 p.m. PST

Dunno. Not that I haven't played some closely related rules, but my inclination is to wargame in about seven broad categories, and I mostly don't care to move them out of one category: individual-mount colonial rules don't adapt to constant-frontage ancients and so forth. Within those categories--well, are ON TO RICHMOND and NACH PARIS really a family? Or just supplemental rules? Other cases are similar. When someone pushes a new set, my first question isn't "what rules are these related to?" but "will these match my basing for the period?"

Parzival, I think I'd say Ogre and GEV are a family, while Space Hulk is part of a larger GW individual mount family, which includes Warhammer, WH40K, Necromunda and Mordheim. (Probably Gorka-Morka, too? This is my son's area, and he's not here to consult.)
