When for whatever reason you are unable to attend a major wargaming convention or show, do you console yourself by ordering minis online?

Col Durnford20 Dec 2017 2:19 p.m. PST

No.

My buying is under control. Age and the lead mountain have taken their toll.

Also, all the store closings in Denver have guaranteed most of my spending will be on-line. The final factor is funding for my on-line purchases are coming from sale of my unwanted stuff.

I view conventions as a free fire zone for impulse buys. At Fall In the cash was split evenly between vendors and the flea market.

pancernijoe20 Dec 2017 2:19 p.m. PST

Fur sure, what you said. Been years since I have been to a con. Always think in May I can get stuff to make up for not going.

JimDuncanUK20 Dec 2017 2:20 p.m. PST

No.

I missed two shows this year including my home show due to health reasons.

I had a pre-order collected for me at one of them however I am not short of figures to paint at any time of the year and will probably take about 5 years to clear my backlog.

Hmm. Minor cons--the Weekend; DanaCon--are neutral: I neither buy nor sell appreciably. For the last two years and change, major cons--HMGS East and SYWA--have been net losses: some figures come home with me, but many more go to the convention and go home with someone else. So missing a major con means more figures than I'd have otherwise, but not the way you're thinking of it.

TodCreasey20 Dec 2017 2:29 p.m. PST

Nope – I save up the money for an even bigger war chest for the next one!

Nope

Rarely to I get to a show that has products from Vendors I neeed

Dynaman878920 Dec 2017 3:00 p.m. PST

No – I only make impulse buys at shows and stick to a budget in any case. When I missed shows before I scheduled a two day gamefest with my FTF gaming buddy, now that he has moved away that is no longer possible but perhaps we can game VIA VASSAL now.

No not really.
I am trying not to buy anymore than necessary. I am currently attempting to paint my backlog. Audio books have helped me to work on the backlog 3 or fours days a week.

No. With age and retirement my hobby spending has been drastically reduced. In fact, over the past couple years I've been thinning the collection, selling armies/eras in which I'm no longer interested. I used to faithfully attend the HMGS East shows beginning when they were held at the Sheraton near New Carrollton, MD. A few years ago I was unable to attend a couple shows and now the desire to go to conventions has all but disappeared. I limit my spending to filling out existing armies or buying a special piece of terrain and looking for books – mostly rare – on subjects of interest.

I once went to our local gaming store and got a large X-Wing ship instead of going to a show, but that was an abnormal reaction, I agree with the previous respondents.

after getting a Large/Nice 24/7/365 permanent Wargame table
in my Basement --- The Boss -- said I didn't need to go to
the Cons/Shows so much and she is right.

Grelber20 Dec 2017 9:18 p.m. PST

Bill, Bill, Bill, Is this a devious plot on your part to convince somebody who shall not be named to let you buy a bunch of figures and terrain? If so, sorry we're no help at all.

In any case, I don't seem to have missed any conventions lately, so I haven't placed any orders to make up for missing one.

No. Not buying much anymore, thinning the lead/plastic pile. Will continue to do this in 2018.

jdpintex21 Dec 2017 7:05 a.m. PST

Nope.

If it is a show I want to attend then I go.

If I don't then I either save up for the next show for those impulse buys or simply order online what I really need. No impulse buys online for me

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP21 Dec 2017 8:25 a.m. PST

No. Con attendance has very little to do with my figure purchases one way or the other.

rmaker21 Dec 2017 11:24 a.m. PST

No.
