I got my first order of steel paper from Bisbell Magnets in the UK today. The service was great. Five days from the date of mailing to reach me in California. The packaging was great and the sheets arrived in excellent condition.

They cut the sheets to 13" x 13" as per my requests. The size made the postage expensive but if you order a smaller size that might cut down on postage.

All in all, they were a great outfit to do business with. I would gladly do business with them again. Their website is bisbellmagnets.com.

Does the stuff adhere to your magnet?

I have some from a different source that has very poor magnet adhesion.

Yes, the magnets adhere quite well. I did what I call my "sideways" test. I put a stand on the steeel paper and then turn it vertically. If the stand does not start to slide down the steel paper then I consider it a quality product. This stuff passed the test with flying colors.

What was originally sold as 'steel paper' (at least here in the UK) was a very thin sheet of mild steel foil glued between two thin paper sheets. It was barely adequate for holding well loaded bases as there wasn't enough iron per sq cm.

Ferrosheet (and I'm assuming it is the same stuff that I bought from them) is much thicker and the iron is embedded in a vinyl substrate 0.8mm thick. Plenty of iron /sq cm and will hold a heavy base of figures firmly in place.

This type of sheet does come in various 'strengths' – usually related to thickness. Be aware though that a magnet of low surface area will still have poor 'grip' unless it is one of the super-strength types.
