I assume SP2 was Sharpe Practice?

I really like the Two Hour Wargames series of games. They have several suitable sets. It's built for players to command very small forces, maybe a dozen or two.

I publish Rampant Colonialism which is designed for larger games, but not full battles. But figures are mounted individually, fighting in small units.

A bit about the game:

Brother Against Brother is a good one though tough to track down…

The 2 Hour Wargames title you want is Rifles and Rebels. Now sold by Rebel Minis.

It's a nice and thorough rules set.

And there is a The Sword and the Flame variant called The Sword and Secession from Sergeants3 sergeants3.com/18.html on the third page just over half way down.

No unit died?
Charge combat is extremely decisive in SP, as is close range shooting.
Did the players just stand off at long range and shoot at each other?
If so, that's not a problem with the rules.

well the union did charge forward a bit but never contacted
the rules should be for 50 models per side

Rolling Thunder – rules for company sized actions – give a good well paced game.

Is Rifles and Rebels similar to Colonial Adventures?

I have that one and it's quite fun.
