Incredible pictures showing the capture of a famous German U-boat during World War II will go on auction in the U.K. this weekend.

The pictures are part of an extensive archive of artifacts that belonged to Royal Air Force Officer Group Captain Montague Whittle, who commanded the RAF station in Iceland during World War II…

Interesting. Note that all of the photo captions identify the sub as the U 571, while the text identifies it as the 570.

My reference indicates it was U.570. U.571 depth charged by Royal Australian Air Force 28 January 1944.

I assume most people here know U-505 is in (or just outside) of the Field Museum in Chicago. The have cut a passageways into the bow and stern, and you can tour the sub.
