We played this15mm Sharp Practice 2 game a couple of weeks ago. It was based on part of the simultaneous series of assaults around Ft Ligionier in western PA. In an attempt to try to stall the British advance on Ft Dusquesne another season French Canadian Capt de Lignery decided to attack Fort Ligonier with his entire remaining force of 450 soldiers and 150 Indians. It would be led by Captain Charles Aubry, a very tough and experienced wilderness fighter. It started on Thursday, October 12, 1758, at around noon with sporadic firing at one of the outer grazing areas. The temporary commander James Burd sent a small patrol to investigate and they soon came running back after encountering a much larger French force. Burd mustered a 500 man reaction force and sent them to deal with it. They too came running back. About this time, the wood line all around the fort erupted in gunfire. Small groups of attackers swooped into the tent cities burning, slashing and scalping their way through them. Entire battalions were upended. Captain Aubry had caught the British flat-footed and they were all running for the safety of the fort's walls. We are using the Toofatlardies' Sharp Practice 2 rules to re fight a portion of this attack with Highlanders from the 77th and North Carolina Provincials attempting to stem the tide of the French soldiers, Canadian milice and native American warriors. Great looking game. My wife and I had the opportunity to visit Ft. Ligonier in September on a Colonial/French & Indian War tour of Southern PA. Had a wonderful time there. |
