One of the secrets to enjoying the hobby is knowing what aspects of the hobby you enjoy and doing those.

So which aspect is your favorite?

KSmyth08 Dec 2017 6:50 p.m. PST

I think I like developing projects and then painting the miniatures to complete them.

That and my various friends and project partners. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy running and playing the games too, but the creative time in between is what I enjoy most.

Painting figures and playing with them.

Seeing painted figures set up on my soldier table. I squat down so that the view does not see the bases.

Syrinx008 Dec 2017 7:21 p.m. PST

Playing, painting, planning. Enjoying time playing with a good group of friends is first.

I especially enjoy painting. Not that I'm great at it, but I find it relaxing. And I like reading various rules sets.

Painting, playing, friendship and a great looking game.
Also admiring other people work. Which is one of the reasons I come here.

Researching, painting, playing. I find learning about units and uniforms engrossing, and then painting the troops and pushing them around a table.

warwell08 Dec 2017 8:15 p.m. PST

I HATE painting
What I like is playing the games then writing after action reports. I really enjoy recording the stories that arise from the scenarios

I once enjoyed researching, painting, and gaming equally. Now it is all about the fellowship.

Rudysnelson08 Dec 2017 8:18 p.m. PST

Researching history

joeltks08 Dec 2017 8:58 p.m. PST

Still trying to figure that out.

Prince Alberts Revenge08 Dec 2017 9:06 p.m. PST

+1 to Ksmyth, for me its the development of a project, research to include organization, painting guides and coming up with a ruleset with which to base them. Finally, its getting them on the table to game with them. I love gaming but its almost an afterthought (or maybe the gravy) to the whole project. I start alot of projects, I don't often complete them.

Cacique Caribe08 Dec 2017 9:13 p.m. PST

Making terrain for them, and sculpting the odd figure.

Playing games, painting figures.

basileus6609 Dec 2017 4:02 a.m. PST

Research. In excess, actually.

UshCha09 Dec 2017 4:54 a.m. PST

Learning how army's actually fight by playing and reading historical accounts and technical manuals. painting is just a neccessary evil. In my period flats generaly do not fit the bill and tokens make it harder to play for me, as games have an element of 3 Dimentions had to visulise in 2D.

Doug MSC Supporting Member of TMP09 Dec 2017 7:44 a.m. PST

I enjoy everything about the hobby, painting, building scenery, researching everything from uniforms to battles, playing the game, organizing the army you want, good friends who enjoy the hobby also, and setting up the table. The only thing that I don't really enjoy a whole lot is putting everything away after a battle.

Since you asked so nice, in order

Painting
Organizing armies
Gaming with my gnomies
Reading about the campaigns/armies
Building scenery and terrain

Rotundo09 Dec 2017 11:03 a.m. PST

Painting. I find it so cathartic. I am really appreciative of the solo aspects of the hobby lately. I like sharing what I created, but the vision and formulation of idea to a little lead reality. I believe that is as close to movie making as I will get.

95th Division09 Dec 2017 11:08 a.m. PST

I love painting miniatures. Next I like planning a scenario, drawing maps, selecting the troops, etc. Third would be running the games and fourth playing in a game.

Dagwood09 Dec 2017 12:23 p.m. PST

Reading. I do a lot of reading.

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP09 Dec 2017 1:08 p.m. PST

The creation of armies. Friendships. Converting historical situations into wargame scenarios. Reading the military history and the wargaming theory.

No, I won't rank them in order. The ranking might be different tomorrow anyway.

Ed Mohrmann Supporting Member of TMP09 Dec 2017 1:45 p.m. PST

The social aspect….

14th NJ Vol09 Dec 2017 1:59 p.m. PST

Fighting the battle, and the social interaction associated with that.
I'm a terrible painter, lousy at making terrain and do not enjoy being a game
Master unless I can play. Yet I do all those things to
Make playing the game possible.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP09 Dec 2017 2:47 p.m. PST

Painting models, terrain, etc. Organizing forces, setting up TO&Es/OOBs. And I've always enjoyed reading and studying military history. Don't do any gaming any more though …

Oberlindes Sol LIC Supporting Member of TMP09 Dec 2017 8:03 p.m. PST

I don't have a favorite. I like everything about the hobby.

cameronian11 Dec 2017 3:42 a.m. PST

Research, planning and painting, gaming I can take or leave.

Starting miniatures and finishing miniatures – the middle part can be a challenge.

DHautpol12 Dec 2017 7:12 a.m. PST

I really enjoy the painting of figures; it doesn't have to be a major painting session. I find that just spending a few minutes (OK, it maybe 30) simply painting the cuffs of a unit or adding their crossbelts is very satisfying, as you push them that little bit closer to completion.

Early morning writer12 Dec 2017 7:15 p.m. PST

Humorous camaraderie. EVERYTHING else takes a distant second behind that.

bobm195914 Dec 2017 6:08 a.m. PST

As the club I'm a member of has moved towards skirmishes, zombies and board games I've been left behind however I'm really enjoying painting and basing figures (whilst listening to music) to the extent that these activities have become the hobby instead of wargaming.
