Hi, Could someone please explain to me, in broad terms, how the numbers of Cuirassiers changed during the C17, particularly during the TYW? |

By "Cuirassiers" are you refering to cavalry in the full 3/4 cuirassier armour or to all cavalry designated as Cuirassiers, the two are not necissarily the same. |

Sometime around 1632 or before? They started to decline in numbers due to cost but its really hard to say. As the TYW went on armor became less and less. Due to cost and troops not wanting to wear it. But that's not to say it was never used even late in the war. |

The book : 'Geschichte der K. Und K. Wehrmacht' – actually about 5 volumes details the various Austrian Regts. Here is a link to Vol. 3 Pt. 2 that lists the Austrian Cuirassier regiments which were built during the Thirty Years' War and were dissolved in the course of the same. link |
