I like your photo style AAR, very nice to see and easy to follow. The gridded map makes an AAr much easier to read…. |

Thanks for fixing the photo, I usually check right away but forgot. iPhoto has finally been upgraded to a point where it is useful to do AR's. You can now add text to photos within the programme. The grid certainly helps with movement as well. John |

I second EC's comments! What were you using for the mat? |

Great looking game, thanks for posting. |

That is a Cigar Box 6x4' with 15cm grids. They do a nice job as they are quite invisible unless you are looking. John Not that your mats are not nice as yours, Simon!!! |

This is the best looking Rommel game I've yet seen depicted. I especially like the way the stands look. Good job!! That being said, I still can't get my mind around the level of abstraction chosen by the designer for these rules, at least for the visuals (square grid, etc.). A game which did much better visually IMHO at this level (batallion stands) was the in-development (or abandoned development?) game system presented by Frank Chadwick at the last Little Wars convention (Sidi Rezegh). I haven't heard anything about it since. MH |

Such an impressive setup for a first game! |

Thanks for the kind words. I did put a lot of work into the planning, so I am happy it looks good. Certainly the game is abstracted for me as I have only played skirmish level WWII games at the squad level in the past. I really have not played any board games for years so I am not really familiar them so it is hard to comment. I was really looking for a mass tank game that I could play at the grand tactical level where I was focussed on tactics rather then mechanism and this game does a really good job of this for me. Plus I got to paint lots of little tanks! John |

Don't see it mentioned explicitly anywhere in the blog post or discussions, but from the pics it looks to me that you were using 3mm scale vehicles and figures -- correct? If I ever decide to for 1-to-several unit scales, you've provided the model of how I would want do it. Not one tank and a notation that it's a platoon or a company or a whatever formation, but instead a stand with a number tanks, or infantry, or guns, or whatever. Gives you the look of the swirling mass, lets you see that your miniatures are in fact what they look like, rather than just symbols on a board. Not that I object to symbols on a board. But there's a reason I prefer miniatures wargaming to board wargaming -- I want the battle I see to look like the battle I'm fighting. This game appears to have succeeded on all fronts. Thanks for sharing. Quite a feast for the eye! -Mark (aka: Mk 1) |

I think I may need to buy Rommel (and probably Blucher). Bunch of the guys like the big battles. |
