Hi, I'd like to get some napoleonic buildings for my 28mm figures. I have some 28mm buildings and really they are too big. So I was thinking of getting 15mm which are a lot cheaper. I like the looks of hovels buildings, but as they have a reduced foot print anyway, would they look funny ? I was specifically thinking of la haye saint in 15mm with a 28mm battalion inside it. Don't suppose anyone has a photo along those lines they can share ? They are like half the price of the 28mm ones. |

Many gamers drop down a size for buildings. That said, 15mm may be too small and look silly. Here's a suggestion: print out some free paper houses to 15mm scale. Put them together and see how they look to you. After all, your opinion is the one that matters! Here are a bunch…. link Also, Wargame Vault has a paper set for Waterloo for $8 USD you could buy and print to the scale that looks best for oyu… |

1/72 or 20mm buildings work very well with 28mm. |

Yes, I think they would look funny. As other have said, drop down to 1/72 or so. |

15mm isnt going to work. Some 15mm buildings work for 20mm games, but some do not. I would try 1/72 buildings. |

Ok thanks for the replies. I'll print some paper ones and try them. Do you think hovel having a smaller footprint will look worse than normal scaled down models (i.e. 20mm hovel?). I'll look in to HO too, is train scenery cheaper ? I suppose 19th century train scenery is hard to come by, unless they have the rocket in HO. |

I agree that 15mm would be too small with 28's. I have always used and liked Hovels 28mm buildings with my 28's. They seem more like 25mm compared to others I have seen (which is what they advertise to be). I wish they had a larger Dark Age range in their 25's. |

I like the 1/72 scale hard plastic buildings by Pegasus for use with my 28mm figures. They are reasonably-priced, go together easily, are very light, and paint up nicely.

Tried a 15mm paper model, looked alright to me. Napoleonics is about big battalions represented by 24 or 36 mini's so small buildings added to the 'represented by' feel. I mean they look small, the doors are tiny, but in terms of the table representing a map, it looked ok. (Cant find any suitable 1/72 models for european farmhouses etc) So I guess the question remains will Hovel 15mm, having a smaller foot print than normal, look worse than a paper 15mm model ? The villages from Total Battle miniatures in 15mm look really good too. But I'm a bit concerned so many people on a Terrain forum think it'll look bad, I suspect you guys have much more knowledge than me. Which is best representing a village with a small scale(15mm) village, or 1 large(28mm) building ? |
