Wow. That reminds of some pictures we used to have of my Mom visiting family in Asturias. There used to be one of her standing in front of the "horreo", which had beams with stone discs on top of them.

Might want to take a look at "Architecture without Architects" some time. All vernacular stuff, and he spent a lot of time on grain storage.
