Hundvig Fezian is not a real big fan of pre-painted minis, and he positively despises randomly-packed "collectable" ones - so why is he writing this article?

"Dwayne Johnson is primatologist Davis Okoye who shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry transforms this gentle ape into a raging monster. As these newly created monsters tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an
ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend."

I cannot believe they turned a 90s coin op game into a movie. A more obscure one at that.

The multiplex has to be fed. They made a movie of "Battleship." Why stop there? And I bet coin op and video game movies do good business dubbed overseas. Gunplay and explosions translate very well.

What else can you do? Stress tight plotting, characterization and clever dialogue? Even if you wanted to, where would you find writers and actors for such a project?

I actually think this could work. Unlike 'Battleship,' which is a (let's face it) dumb luck guessing board game with very little strategy involved, 'Rampage' gives us classic monsters based on King Kong and Godzilla. Sure it's a shameless rip-off, but who wouldn't want to see Kong and 'Zilla rampage through a cityscape?

Besides, games of a similar mind like 'King of Tokyo' and its sequel 'King of New York' are quite popular in gaming groups.

Speaking of movies about video games, I'm scaling back my enthusiasm on Steven Spielberg's adaptation of the excellent novel 'Ready Player One,' because from the trailer it doesn't look like it's very faithful to the book.

Movies have been made from Mortal Combat, Street Fighter, and Doom, so I guess Rampage isn't all that far fetched, but I did cringe a bit when I saw the trailer last week at the theater.

Should I be ashamed that I didn't make the video game connection until 2 minutes in? Either way, I'll probably watch it. I liked the game, gun play, giant critters and explosions, so where's the popcorn?

To speak nothing of 'Super Mario Brothers,' 'Resident Evil' and 'Tomb Raider,' the latter returning to theatres with Alicia (yowza) Vikander replacing Angelina Jolie.

I'm waiting for "PONG:the movie"

I hope it's in 3D.
