So I'm new to Napoleonic wargaming and recently bought the "Song of Drums and Shakos" rulebook. I was wondering if you can use 20mm square bases? If not would 20mm round bases work. I have some left over from another project. My figures are 28mm in size.

I use 20mm square bases for all of my 28mm figures, Napoleonic, WW2, etc. They work fine.

Ok thanks. I was worried for nothing.

I think the main thing is that the bases should be relatively the same size for all forces (larger for cavalry, of course) so people cannot get a move advantage with unusually large bases. Saga ran into the same sort of issue where the game mechanics had implied that similar base sizes be used.
