I am considering getting a few 15mm or 28mm ECW figures for a small-board skirmish project (I already have some nice 6mm big battle armies). Ideally I would like:

Slim rather than chunky
Musketeers not using rests
Using the modern rather than Victorian conception of what the troops looked like

Any ideas?

Perry would fit with what you are after except that they don't do packs of musketeers all in montero caps which may or may not be an issue for you.

If I were starting again and choosing 28mm I'd use Perry. I find their ECW nicer and easier to paint than their Sudan figures that have me cursing. (I painted a couple of dozen ECW for fun.)

Peter pig's 15mm ECW is worth a look.

Depending on your level of skill at painting, check out Empress Miniatures below.

Pros:

1) Historically accurate.

2) Slim, well proportioned, and have a good number of musketeers (mostly with the Oxford Army) without rests.

3) Headgear is mostly wool caps.

4) Probably the best detailed ECW range I have seen.

5) Lots and lots of varied cavalry.

Cons:

1) Price: They are on the expensive side.

2) Most of the range focuses on the early years of the war(s) so most musketeers have rests.

3) They can be difficult to paint if trying to paint everything one sees.

4) They do not have any Scottish or Irish Troops, which has kept me from purchasing more from them.

Below is a link to some fantastic photos. The review is fair if someone is trying to achieve this level of detail. I myself am not at this level, so the issue of painting is not an issue for me.

In summery, for me the pros outweigh the cons.

Another vote for Perry figures.

Second blue moon, really nice mins altho they don't have any Scots or Montrose in bonnets.

A second vote for Peter Pig in 15mm. A lovely, varied range, with the additional benefit of being able to swap heads for further variety.

1st Corps have a new range coming out.

I wouldn't consider Blue Moon, 1st Corps or Peter Pig 'slim' which was a characteristic the OP requested.

It's hard to judge without seeing them for real and they are a new release. But they don't look particularly fat to me. TMP link

Just checked, these aren't out til April. But they have different head options if you want to wait. link

Bicornes are nice 28mm minis- not especially slim, but certainly not chunky and packs with monteros.
