How often do you take the same historical battle, and fight it multiple times using different rulesets?

Never.

I have purposely done it three times in a row to test out skirmish games and see which mechanics I like best. It's happened on larger battles, but those are some time apart and it's not intentional.

Only to test a new rule set

I have done this with World War 2 rulesets. I play two "officially" and encounter other rules when I go to conventions. I love testing out new rule sets, especially at conventions.

My quest for the "perfect" rule set led me to try 4-5 sets of rules for Palo Alto. I eventually settled for Brent Oman's Field of Battle2 which I had helped to playtest ;) However, if I come across another Mexican-American set, I wouldn't mind giving them a shot.

I always seem to play Cowpens and Guilford Corthouse when I try new rules for AWI.

Rarely.

Well not exactly. I have taken a scenario and used the same nations armies but at different eras. Like this,

I use Teugen-Hausen from the 1809 Danube Campaign to test new Napoleonic rules sets.

Umm… 10 times with the Battle of Callinicum with different rules, about 15 with the battle of Heraclea with further different sets and 4 times with Hydaspes with different rules. I have another battle setup and hope to play anything from 5 to 12 further different rules with them but unlikely to start this battle until later in 2018.
I posted my battles with the different rules to my blog. Shameless plug – here is the link to the page with a link to most of the battle reports, sorted by ruleset:

Quite a bit actually. I use it as my benchmark for rules sets that I am curious about. I used the Battle of Bouvines 1214 because it has a couple of well balanced armies and a nice variety of troop types for a medieval game.

Sometimes. We've done Battle of Raab a number of times over the years with Snappy Nappy, and decades earlier, with Empire.

Just re-did Edgehill with FoG this year -- last one was 2015.
