Can anyone confirm the co!our of Siamese Helmets, I have always thought them to be black but some sources say red similar to Burmese? |

All you have to do is do a search them. Both were not uniform but were made up of a lot of different nationalities. The Burmese included the main groups of Shan, Tailaing, Arakan and Birman. Some did not wear helmets but rather Turbans. Siamese or Thai forces was also composed of many small kingdoms though many were Shan or Chinese in origin. Many of the ex-kingdoms would retain their regional dress and colors. Reenactments for tourists and at holidays are very common and some great photos are on line. The brimmed hat/helmet does seem to be common and black was predominant. But not universal. |

Bear in mind that Siamese and Thai are not the same thing. Many Thai kingdoms were not part of Siam, which was used for the whole country only for a little while. It's normally just the central plains. |
