Hi Another go at this post. Don't know what happened last time. I've just been given a terrain mat. I think it came from a company called 'Terrain Mat' which seems not to be trading anymore. The backing is a slightly shiny flexible plastic material. The top is nicely flocked although there is some shedding. I'll spray with diluted white glue to fix the surface. However, the mat is rather crinkly as it has been stored in a cylindrical tube for a few years. Could it be ironed? I don't want to melt the backing. Thinking of sticking it permanently to an MDF baseboard. White glue, and weighted with books? Any tips? |

I imagine that an iron on low would be OK. Test it on a corner. |

The MDF baseboard would be my approach. Glue down, put down two layers of wax paper, and weight the entire surface with books. Leave at least overnight, and 24 hours won't hurt. It's worked for me. Once that's done, add flocking as needed, then hit with the dilute white glue and let that dry for a day. Watch out for children and pets! |

piepenbrink, thanks for tip – why the wax paper? |

If the glue soaks through, you don't want your books glued to the mat. (For what it's worth, I often use a carpet adhesive and a grooved trowel, but white glue should work.) |

Fix the flocking then hang it in a small bathroom with a very hot shower running. Let it steam for a good 20-30 minutes. Clamp weights to the bottom to help it un crinkle. |

EC, I'd be careful what I fixed the flocking with before I left it in a nice steamy bathroom for half an hour. |
