Pretty much what the title says…who makes the biggest chunkiest 15mm (well, probably 15mm+++) fantasy miniatures (with a descent range).

Battle Valor Games? Their range is always growing and the figures looked fairly big – more 15/18 – in a comparison on line. battlevalorgames.com

Here is the comparison site – link

Big fan of Battle Valor. Their Orcs are definitely big and chunky.

Check out irregular miniatures. Definately big and chunky but not their best sculpts..

I should probably clarify a bit. I'm pretty aware of the majority of fantasy lines out there (15mm fantasy has been a "dream" of mine for years, and I'm always looking around)…but I don't actually own any examples.

It's very hard to tell from each website, because they generally advertise as "15mm" no matter what end of the scale they are on. I've seen several comparison shots online, but they usually only include one or two examples. They give an idea, but not a great example of the differences, especially when different races are involved.

I am a fan of the older lines (I have tons of Irregular "28mm"). Irregular, Essex, and Alternative Armies(15mm UK) all look like they might be on the big side…but again, very hard to tell from pictures…and I like SOME of the races, but not others so much (much as I love Irregular, their Orcs and Goblins leave something to be desired…while their dwarves and Elves look awesome, for example).

I do have Blue Moon "15-18mm" wild west figures (as my only real reference right now). I also used to own several of the newer Splintered Light minis, which I thought were rather "small" and "thin". Many here may not own this boardgame, but I did paint up all my Battlelore 1st edition miniatures..which seem to be a sort of "off-scale" somewhere between 15mm and 20mm, but not really conforming to either. I wouldn't mind using this extensive collection in conjunction with what I purchase, which is primarily why I'm interested in "big and beefy".

I am actually looking for the physically beefiest and/or biggest ones out there (18-20mm would be fine with me…but not 1:72, before someone suggests Caesar or Red Box)) that actually have a extensive line (hence my interest in Irregular, Essex, and Alternative Armies specifically…although I hadn't considered Battle Valor, assuming they were true 15mm).

So, the next recommendation would be to buy several samples from different manufacturers…unfortunately, I'm in the USA, and shipping is usually (disproportionately) ridiculous, especially if you order in small quantities. Usually, it's only prudent to make substantial orders, so I have to make decisions beforehand based on the best information I have.

Thanks for the help.

There have been more than a few threads in here over the years on 15mm fantasy.

These should help flesh out the options. But, to answer your question. Battle Valor, Black Raven, some Eureka, and Demonworld, tho I find their stuff a bit stylized.

Hope this proves useful.

Black Raven for certain. Much closer to 20mm than 15/18.

The Battle Valor Range is designed to be overly large 15mm. My Dwarfs are 13mm to the eye, Orcs are closer to 20mm. The other races tend to fall between those 2 somewhere, although the Lizardmen are big as well.

The models are definitely beefy and are great to paint.

I second the Battle Valor Range. Just painted up some Lizardmen (scalians) and they are rather large for 15mm. It was hard to fit even 3 to a 40mm frontage, though the depth was more of an issue due to their tales, but I was able to fit 6 to a 40mmx40mm base. Also I would contact the owner of Battle Valor and ask for a sample or if a sample pack is available so you could judge the size. I am sure he would be more then willing to help you out. The only other manufacturers that I have are Peter Pig which are on the smaller range for 15mm fantasy and Black Raven Foundry which I think would be more regular sized 15mm.

Another vote for Black Raven.
Their 15mm dwarves towered over my orcs.
