The Prussians have won 5 battles in a row and the Austrians are desperate to show at least some ability to defeat Prussians….."any Prussians"! So Daun and Lacy devised a scheme in which they would use a "divide to conquer strategy" (march divided/ fight united) in order to beat the Prussians. Since all the other Prussian armies had already retired to fortified camps in which to "winter", there was but one target…. Lt. General Bevern and his command. Bevern was marching rather leisurely towards his assigned winter quarters near Legnica, Silesia. Bevern was unaware that Austrian forces had forced march to the town of Trutnov…a town in front of the main mountain pass in this area between Bohemia to Silesia. The Austrians had also placed a combined force of cavalry and infantry to follow closely behind Bevern. So the Prussians had Austrians blocking their "escape" to Silesia and "pressuring their rear". His only hope was to drive thru the Austrians at Trutnov before he was taken in the rear!

Ah yes, finally! Another great looking battle with the Austrians giving the Prussians a well deserved comeuppance.

Thanks randy51!
Yes, the Austrians really planned this one out….and executed!

Great AAR – good to see the whitecoats get some licks in!

Thanks "Frederick".
Actually most of the Prussian victories were more "tactical"
than decisive! But this Austrian victory was both tactical and decisive!

Another fine battle (thank you!) with a spectacular Austrian victory. Percentage-wise, the Prussian losses are shocking.

Thank you "de Ligne"!
By the way…I have the painted infantry regiment "de Ligne"…any historical connection to you?"
Cheers from Texas

Cracking. Small point, in the 18th century trutnov was known as Trautenau, almost 100% ethnic German.

Thanks "Ramming"! I had read that in Wikipedia. But decided to go with the current Czech name in case someone was using a more "current" map to find it.

But we use a period map for campaigning….and it had the original name…Trautenau…see:

Cheers from Texas!

You should visit it some time, the Gablenz monument is stunning and the museum is really worth a look, also go to the graveyard, there is a collection of fine memorial sculpture behind glass.

WOW Ramming! The gamers in Europe are so lucky! You can visit the battlefields….without spending for transatlantic airfare. I know some who use their car to drive to sites. And then there is the "time factor" for visiting sites. A friend of mine from the UK visited us in Texas…and was amazed (or maybe appalled is the better word) that it took 12 hours of driving (at 70 mph) just to get out of Texas…on a trip to Colorado!

Cheers and thanks for the input!

Ramming26 Nov 2017 9:31 a.m. PST

LOL, you remind me of graffiti I saw in aspen, 'Keep Colorado tidy … put a Texan on a bus' !

18CTEXAN26 Nov 2017 2:18 p.m. PST

NOW That is funny…Ramming! Except Texans don't ride buses much. I once went by bus from Houston to Lubbock (660 miles). It took 14 hours, because of all the stops!
Then there is the Texas joke:
"If you flattened and spread out all the mountains in Colorado …Texas would still be 3 times bigger!"
Cheers from Texas!
