The annual Remembrance Day Parade will be held in Gettysburg this Saturday starting around 1PM. Several thousand reenactors will march down Baltimore Street and then along Steinwehr Avenue to the park entrance. Bands and pomp!

I have to mention, however, that apparently there has been some sort of anonymous threat made against the parade. Security will be tighter and the route shorter than in past years.

But we will march!

I'm confused.

Remembrance Day is usually celebrated on or near the 11th.

Why the 18th?

Unlike the Commonwealth countries, in the United States we call November 11 Veterans Day. Remembrance day is to commemorate Lincoln's Gettysburg address which he gave at Gettysburg on November 19, 1863.

Thanks, knew it wasn't a date relevant to the battle itself.

Good luck, Scott. What I've heard is the same group that made a threat against the Cedar Creek battle reenactment (where a pipe bomb was discovered and disarmed) made a similar threat against Gettysburg and the battlefield.

I haven't seen any hard evidence that there was any actual bomb at Cedar Creek, or anything linking this current incident to that one. Still, the whole situation is just silly.

Thanks Scott, I had no idea this was an event. Best of luck and stay safe.

I'll be there, too. Look for the guy with a beard wearing a blue outfit.

By the way, I have seen no evidence there really was a pipe bomb at Cedar Creek.

It's going to be a bit chilly, good luck!

Well, we are here. Have not been blown up yet. But there seem to be very few people on the streets compared to past years.

I cannot see such threats disinclining reenactors from either side from attending. March proud, ScottWashburn.

Well, we marched through Fortress Gettysburg today! Dump trucks blocked all the major streets, concrete barriers blocked side streets and driveways, polices, bomb sniffing dogs and snipers on the roof tops! No incidents. Oh, and it rained heavily and we all got soaked. What a great time! 😀

I am drying off even as I type this message. We the few, the proud….the cold, wet and crazy.

I love this hobby.
