I always wonder why people who do not really master a foreign language insist so much in using one for titles, captions etc. Not incorrect perhaps – but you just would not say it…merely a literal translation that adds nothing but a sad pretension…

I am impressed with this from Tango 01. It captues the atmosphere and desolation of the retreat from Moscow. It would be nice to see a whole Battallion painted this way.

'Bastard' is what we call in French 'un faux-ami'. It means the same word but a different meaning.

I guess 'poor bastards' shouldn't be translated 'pauvres bâtards' but 'pauvres gars' or 'pauvres hères' instead.

The original 'bâtard' term ('bastard' in ancient French) designed an illegitimate child.
In modern French, 'bâtard' is more like 'son of …'
