I remember buying this book back in the Seventies as a brand new wargamer. I even tried to make some of the works illustrated. Ah, happy memories.

Usually, a gabion is constructed with an unequal number of pickets, because thus the length of the boughs doesn't matter and you can just twist them around the pickets in a spiral, one after the other.
