One of the most visited pages in TMP is the Daughouse … where one can check if a fellow member is serving his time in prison and therefore is absent so why he does not answer / comment on certain threads … it is also useful to know which been his "crime" and the end of his sentence … this way we know when he is able to return … Now that the "Conversation with Gwen" has been added to the list of punishments … I consider that it would be very useful to have another page with a list of those who are in that situation and to know why? … That would be very interesting and informative … as much as the Daughouse …
It could be titled as: The Purgatory The Limbo Zone The Ether Zone Under investigation by the authorities Chating with Gwen etc Do you consider that a new page with this list would be useful? Thanks. Amicalement Armand

No. This would only bring back the "issues" we had when Stifle and Ignore counts were published. Of course we had a lot more members back then. I see no need, except for amusement. |

So… what's the difference to have a Dawghouse list but not a list of other punished members?… Not my intention to put a count mark list… only information… as the dawghouse list. If I ask you for some fellow members now who are in that situation… probably you didn't know… Do you don't want to know… or you don't ever visit the dawghouse list?. Amicalement Armand

Temporarily Locked status is not a punishment. It simply means that we need to resolve something with that person. For example, it could mean we've spotted unusual activity on that account, and want to check if the person needs to update their password. |
Cacique Caribe | 14 Nov 2017 1:19 p.m. PST |
Limbo then. It sounds festive, if accompanied by the right music. The DH page has a song clip, so perhaps the Limbo Page could too. Are there that many people with "temporarily locked accounts", to need statistics on them? I know there are lots of people with "unverified" email addresses who post here just fine. Dan |

Since we are venturing into Catholic religious terms like Limbo and Purgatory (I do believe that most Protestant denominations reject that; I could be wrong), perhaps Dear Editor could sell Indulgences alongside Supporting Memberships. Definition of indulgence1 :remission of part or all of the temporal and especially purgatorial punishment that according to Roman Catholicism is due for sins whose eternal punishment has been remitted and whose guilt has been pardoned (as through the sacrament of reconciliation. (Penance to us old timers) linkPurgatory can be defined, loosely, as "You aren't going to Hell, as much as you deserve it, you degenerate swine, but you do have after school detention." Selling indulgences might be a good quick way to raise cash. Ask Johann Tetzel. |

Purgatory (I do believe that most Protestant denominations reject that; I could be wrong), You are wrong. The Anglican and Methodist traditions along with Eastern Orthodoxy, affirm the existence of an intermediate state and thus pray for the dead. They don't refer to it as "purgatory" as this is seen as too Catholic. |

Cacique Caribe | 14 Nov 2017 7:26 p.m. PST |
Hmm. Seriously? Hostage-taking? :) Now that we apparently negotiate with hostage takers these days, I guess I'd put a share of that fee on the pile for his release. But there would have to be some guarantees. Dan |
John the OFM | 14 Nov 2017 9:04 p.m. PST |
You mean you'll give me $100 USD USD for letting Otto free? I see that LDS can quickly grasp the concepts of Indulgences. But no. I have not won PowerBall, so cannot afford to be magnanimous to fellow wargamers who have strayed. However, you have opened up the possibility. Otto, the door is open. Is $100 USD good for a Plenary Indulgence, good for all past and future sins? Something to think about. It's what the First Crusade was granted. Or, so they thought. Imagine their surprise after getting slain raping Antioch! |

Just an observation … What happened to the don't talk religion on TMP rules ? Just say'n ! as this is seen as too Catholic. I'm Roman Catholic [not a very good one I'll admit !]. But what if I said, e.g. something was too Protestant or too Jewish … or even too islamic ? Again … just say'n … Since we are venturing into Catholic religious terms like Limbo and Purgatory (I do believe that most Protestant denominations reject that; I could be wrong), perhaps Dear Editor could sell Indulgences alongside Supporting Memberships. And like I said, I'm not a very "good" Catholic … but … again just say'n … Are some religions OK to say some things about but others not ? Just looking for some guidance from a higher authority … maybe … |
Gone Fishing | 15 Nov 2017 9:19 a.m. PST |
Legion, the crucial words are "is seen as" – I can't read his mind, of course, but I think that was in no way meant as a swipe against Catholics. (And this from a Catholic!) No need to stir the pot… |
Winston Smith | 15 Nov 2017 9:39 a.m. PST |
It's a historical observation that some denominations would still hold to Catholic practices but not wish them to be identified as "Catholic". Nowhere is a value discrimination implied. |
Legion 4 | 15 Nov 2017 1:47 p.m. PST |
Understand guys … and I had no intention "to stir the pot" … I was only pointing out something based on my past experiences and observations. Generally religion is not talked about here. But it seems to me there maybe a "double standard" ? I could be wrong. However again e.g. if I said anything ending in "too islamic". Or maybe "too Jewish" … or "too Buddhist" … Would someone else take offense ? Of course it would depend on the context of how it was used, etc. But … Again, I could be very wrong. Personally like I said I'm not a very good Catholic … and didn't take any offense. Just making an observation … and again I could be wrong … |
Winston Smith | 15 Nov 2017 4:23 p.m. PST |
As for something being " too Jewish", it has been said that one of the reasons Germany lagged in atomic bomb development was that atomic science at the time was considered "too Jewish" by the Nazis and thus not trustworthy. It's also rather difficult to discuss Renaissance history, Landsknechts, the 30 Years War, English Civil War etc without mentioning religion. From a wargaming standpoint, how do you discuss the Wars of Religion without mentioning religion? Guy Fawkes? The Crusades? The Papal States? |
Winston Smith | 15 Nov 2017 4:32 p.m. PST |
The point has been made many times regarding uniforms in the SYW that "Catholic" states tended to wear Austrian style uniforms, while Lutheran states tended towards the Prussian model. And there are many more examples of this. One can certainly discuss religion and history without making value judgement and certainly without violating TMP policy. |
Legion 4 | 15 Nov 2017 5:10 p.m. PST |
Yes, can I see where you are coming from. My understanding of the TMP rules may have been too strict … Regardless to be clear … I never said anything offensive or negative against any religion, either. Plus not too amazingly and once again the posts have gone waaay off topic … That may or may not be a good thing based on one's POV. |
