Get them while they last, or not:

50% off?

Did they ever ship wave 2?

Lion in the Stars12 Nov 2017 4:38 p.m. PST

No, still waiting on Wave 2.

haywire12 Nov 2017 5:32 p.m. PST

No Wave 2 yet… maybe not ever at this point.

From what I have seen in pictures of the warehouse, their supplies of Wave 1 stuff will last a long time. I think they went overboard on what they actually did produced.

Tgunner12 Nov 2017 6:37 p.m. PST

They are still looking for a company to manufacture wave 2. Not sure why they don't just use the original company.

Balin Shortstuff12 Nov 2017 8:45 p.m. PST

How tall are they? From a painting demo they seem to be about 4 inches.

McWong7312 Nov 2017 9:37 p.m. PST

Way smaller than that, they're 1/300 scale and an absolute PITA to put together.

Balin Shortstuff12 Nov 2017 10:34 p.m. PST

That would put them at about 2.28 inches then.

The KS was a success for Palladium Books but not so much for the backers.

Instead of overproducing the Wave 1 releases (since there's enough of a surplus to warrant such a discount) Palladium should have used the money raised to fund the Wave 2 releases and fulfill their obligations to the backers.

GypsyComet13 Nov 2017 9:33 a.m. PST

It sits on store shelves at 50% off or more, and I see no one clamoring to order more.

Also, doesn't a 50% discount get this stuff down closer to normal model pricing? I used to find the 1/144 scale Macross models for a lot less than these. Easier to assemble, too.

15mm and 28mm Fanatik13 Nov 2017 12:19 p.m. PST

I gave in and bought two starter boxes. I know there's some pita assembling to do with these but I want a DYRL Skull Squadron led by Roy and a Vermillion Squadron led by Rick, plus Max's and Miriya's paired VF-1J's. Also ordered the updated Macross sourcebook (standard 8.5" × 11" format, not the compact manga size released earlier).

I "missed out" on the KS so do not harbor the burning hatred towards Palladium Books and Kevin Siembieda in particular that many here understandably possess.

Fish13 Nov 2017 12:50 p.m. PST

The -50% off makes me feel warm inside as Palladium had mandated (due to license most likely) that the game can't be exported out of US of A by distributors.

So the store I work as a buyer couldn't get any.

Choke in the overstock, Kev!

Tgunner13 Nov 2017 4:08 p.m. PST

Depends on the model really. The Zentraedi are quite easy to assemble. The Officer's Pod is a bit of a pain with the small sensor stuff.

UEDF is annoying, but not horrible. The Valkyries are a bit fiddly, especially the missile racks on the wings. The Destroids are a bother too. It's mostly the number of small pieces you have to mess with.

I guess they were trying to make the hobby crowd happy with high detail in the kits, so they needed the odd pieces to pull in the detail. Unfortunately its us gamers who need these miniatures in mass (you need about 10+ mecha for the UEDF and 20+ for the Zentraedi), so it is a pain to spend 5-15 minutes assembling a mini (that's mostly cutting out the tiny pieces!).

They are fantastic models and they look rather good with the old Battletech unseens. Far better than them actually since you have the ability to kit and pose them. I grumble when I put them together, but I love the result. I'll happily toss them into a BT game as Archers, Warhammers, and Riflemen. The Valkyries are too big to be Wasps and Stingers, but they are excellent Pixies! Vastly better than the old Phoenix Hawks. The Officer Pod just doesn't work for a Marauder.. it is WAY too big. That's too bad, it is one of my favorites!

Oh well. I'm okay with them and I enjoy them. YMMV.

Are the prices listed the 50% off total?

Thanks

John

the burning hatred towards Palladium Books and Kevin Siembieda in particular that many here understandably possess.

He's been worthy for FAR longer than this Kickstarter business. He was demanding editing and "correction" rights over *reviews* back in the late 80s, and shut down a Robotech fanzine with prejudice because a contributor dared to improve on his game. He deflects blame like a career politician.

I stayed away from the Kickstarter because I was already well aware of his nature, not the other way around.

Are the prices listed the 50% off total?

No, the listed prices are MSRP.

This might be worth it to pick up the convention specials (Miriya's Super Valk, Max's Valk Battroid, Breetai, and Grell), if they're included in the sale.

I need at least two Super Valks (and will need to get creative for all 3 modes), and Breetai would be fun to add.

I bet that the reason Palladium made so many of the Wave 1 items for retail is because they didn't realize all the Robotech/Macross fans backed the KS.

Garand14 Nov 2017 10:59 a.m. PST

I backed this game and my stuff was slated to go out in -- you guessed it -- wave 2. Which I may never see. I didn't back a whole lot of money, but still an undelivered product is an undelivered product. This is also the sort of game I had been waiting years for (I love Macross, less so Robotech), such a disappointment…

Damon.

15mm and 28mm Fanatik14 Nov 2017 11:48 a.m. PST

Sale's over. Items are now back to full price.

Lion in the Stars14 Nov 2017 3:03 p.m. PST

Damn. Because I wanted about $300 USD worth at retail prices to finish off my Zents and humans (short of the Wave 2 stuff).

More than half of my pledge is in Wave 2.

Lion in the Stars15 Nov 2017 2:09 p.m. PST

Just got an update. Sale ran for the weekend of Nov 11-12, will run again on Nov 18-19.

ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa15 Nov 2017 2:15 p.m. PST

The Officer Pod just doesn't work for a Marauder.. it is WAY too big. That's too bad, it is one of my favorites!

Marauder II?

I read some Palladium RPG books that passed through my hands a while back. They made old school FASA BTech books look like exemplars of the art of proof reading! But the mini's are rather nice – if clearly fiddly.

Tgunner20 Nov 2017 5:02 p.m. PST

No, it doesn't have that "wing" looking piece that the MAD II has. I guess you could modify it to have that, but it is still too big to me. The Officer's Pod is just a massive brute!

picture

The RPG Tactics Spartan and Super Valkyrie are pretty good stand ins for the old Unseens (granted, the Valkyrie is a bit tall for a 45 ton Pixie). You can see the Officer's Pod in the second rank. It is head and shoulders larger than the other two. They are HUGE. Too big to be a 75 ton heavy and probably too big for a 100 ton assault too. But then again, you might think it's fine.

Eye of the beholder and all that.

15mm and 28mm Fanatik22 Nov 2017 5:21 p.m. PST

I received my order within a week of placing it. For all the disaster the KS had been, I can't fault them for speedy delivery and service.

15mm and 28mm Fanatik27 Nov 2017 1:36 p.m. PST

Looks like the main starter set is back on discount, but not the a la carte miniature sets.

Tempted, but I already bought two starter sets plus quite a few of the individual boxes when they were first discounted. So that's 14 Valks (42 in all 3 modes), 4 Tomahawks, 4 Defenders, 4 Spartans and 4 Phalanxes for the UEDF and 2 Glaug Officer Battlepods, 2 Quel-Regult Recon Battlepods, 2 Quel-Gulnau Recovery Battlepods, 36 Regult Battlepods and 8 Regult Artillery Battlepods for the Zentraedi forces.

Lion in the Stars27 Nov 2017 2:57 p.m. PST

The hell of it is, you really need a lot of the Zent minis that are in Wave 2 (Gnerl fighters and the power armors) to get a well-matched battle.

Personally, I need a second starter box (will probably make an offer on one taking up space in a local store) to fill out my Zentraedi forces, it's cheaper than getting the mass of Regults I need. Will give me 2x Regult Attrition Squadrons, 2x Regult Attack Squadrons, a Regult Recon Squadron, and a Regult Artillery Squadron. Total of 3 Glaug Officer's Pods, 48 basic Regults, and 8 artillery Regults, plus 3 Recon Regults and 3 Recovery Pods. (My UEDF collection is worse, I have a silly number of Destroids and plan on a lot more Valkyries)

I went a bit crazy on the KS. *embarrassed*
