Not sure what the furore was about over the film – there were just four companies of transport troops from India present at Dunkirk, of which three were successfully evacuated and one was captured. The fact that this tiny contingent was not "portrayed" in the film is of no real historical significance – were any Highland units shown in the film? The fact is that the introduction of ethnic minorities into UK society over the last 50-60 years HAS improved and widened the knowledge of their contribution to the war effort. There is an Indian-based WW1 society that has taken part in parades at Sandhurst:- link They are NOT forgotten, as The Guardian tries to make out (year after **g year!!!). |
