A short video showing how the model terrain for 'Blade Runner 2049' was built by Weta Workshop in New Zealand. Some of the techniques and materials are very familiar to us wargamers, though here they're done at a much more extreme level!

Alex Funke is my hero! His absolute genius work on The Lord of the Rings is a big reason that I was inspired to get into wargaming and also began my obsession with terrain building!

I still stare in awe when I watch the LOTR making-of documentary where they show the twelve-foot tall miniature of the city of Minas Tirith.

It's so great to see him still working in 2017 and still relying on miniature sets to make movie environments come alive and feel real.

I fear though that Funke is a dying breed, one of the last miniature heroes that we still have in Hollywood.
