Since I can't find a complete set of buildings for this period I have made an agreement with a well- known manufacturer of wargame buildings, to commission a series of houses suitable for the Indian Mutiny of 1857. The intention is to have him build a series of 5-7 rural North Indian houses (mostly thatched roofs)some with small courtyards and /or gardens, followed by a set of more urban housing (flat, open roofs) The bigger items in the series will be a Colonial bungalow with porch/balcony ( partly tiled and thatched roof) a colonial mansion and two military barracks (tiled and thatched) based on those at Meerut. Now, before all this can happen I need as many illustrations as possible to give him good guidelines. So if any of you know of good illustrations of the above mentioned items either on-line or in print, please let me know. All buildings will be made in a lightweight material and will come fully painted. To give you an idea of this manufacturer's' work take a look here. link As you can see he already has a series of Oriental houses and the new ones will be in a similar style, although possibly some will be done in a more reddish colour if that would be indicated. |

I did the same thing for 28mm AWI. There were very few town buildings for the AWI. I commissioned a professional model maker to make the important buildings at Trenton during the battles there. But I can use them for all sorts of battles. So far I have eight. I did all the research and sent him the results of my research, then he built the buildings to scale. I used the first one for the Battle Harlem Heights two Saturdays ago. It is playing the part of the Jones' house at Harlem Heights. But it is actually a model of the Stacy Pott's house used by Col. Rall as his headquarters in Trenton. Here is the flickr link. link |

Looks like this is generating some interest. I still have to talk this trough with Didier ( from More Terrain) but the original idea was to have these buildings privately commissioned just for myself, since they are all scratch-built one by one. However if there is an interest (and there obviously is, and not just on this forum) he will almost certainly make all or most of the range available to the general public. Perhaps not the colonial mansion as in truth there are several mansions already available and I just wanted it for compatibility reasons. Anyway it is clear that some more discussion is needed, but I'll keep you informed on the progress. In the mean time keep sending me any link or illustration which you think might be useful. The colonial bungalow is already settled on and the model will be based on this.

First two buildings are being built now. Two bungalows in fact all based on the one in the picture but with different details. Do you think the domed superstructure is part of the bungalow or just another building in the background? Next are the rural houses and the barracks. Definitely need some more pictorial references on the latter. |

Access to flat roofs were/are often domed. |

I agree – that's the domed stairwell up to the flat roof of the bungalow. I'd definitely buy several of these if they were made commercially available. |

Well, Didier promised to have the first two buildings (bungalows) ready by end this month. Haven't yet heard from him but I'll give him a shout after the festive season. |

Very nice. What materials are these buildings made from? Foam board (architectural cardboard) and a Polyfilla/glue coating. Very sturdy and lightweight. |

Got my houses and they are even better in real life ! Axel bought some too, and in fact Didier was sold out in an hour or less. He will put the rural houses, villas and bungalows on his website next week for general sale. For prospective buyers in the US; contact Didier via email and he'll send a PayPal invoice. His website is geared to EU and UK only. Next in the pipeline is a colonial mansion, a small Indian temple, and variants on the rural houses ( without doors and generally more shabby) Still trying to find good references for the colonial barracks so these will come later. The mansion, temple and traditional houses might be ready by MonkeyCon in June. |

Wow, very nice, and all in my favorite scale, thanks for posting! Excited to see the Temple and Mansion… and the barracks later on! |
