HBO has picked up the new BBC miniseries "Gunpowder", about the last man to enter Parliament with honest intentions. It will "air" sometime in December. For Comcast Xfinity subscribers, that means permanently On Demand. >cough cough<

Kit Harrington portrays his ancestor Catesby, the mastermind of the Gunpowder Plot. (If I were producing and starring in a historical miniseries about my ancestors, I would make sure they were the most important conspirators too!)
Looks pretty interesting, with the added bonus of some pretty gruesome hanging, drawing and quartering scenes to start the fun.

Any reviews from British viewers?

Definitely gruesome but the times were a bit rough. I really liked it, well worth watching.

I thought it was pretty good. Amazingly, a historical drama that actually looked reasonably authentic!

Although, how accurate was the camp James I? Don't know anything about the feller, myself…

There were rumours he slept with both sexes.

Ha! It's crazy how people always try to destroy reputations of rivals with allegations of that sort, specially back in those days.

PS. Well, when the baker was asked about preferences he innocently replied "sometimes I feel like a baguette, sometimes I feel like a croissant." And the gossips would surely take it from there.

This sounds pretty cool. I'm looking forward to it.

Jimmy One seemed a pretty weird and interesting guy, but like CC said, I don't know if I would take that at face value. At least no author I've read was willing to "make the call" on the matter, and chalked up much to character assassination.

I don't think there is any attempt to disparage James I. It is more a plot device to explain his preferring one advisor over another.

A show in which acting and scripting competed for the title of "Closest approach to chewing gum". Including Eowyn.
