All,

I am working on some scenarios for the Northern Shoulder of a Cold War gone hot set in the mid to late 1980s.

I have found good information on the forces of Norway and Sweden on hand. There is a very detailed wikipedia article on the structure of the Swedish armed forces in 1989. I don't know how accurate this is, but for wargaming it is good enough. link

I can find lots of information on Finland in WW2 and some current stuff, but my searches for 1980s-era information is coming up empty.

Do you all have any information or resources?

Look here. Just go down to later years.

Stephen,

I am looking for company/battalion/Regiment level information. Do the Micromark lists go up that high or are they lower level?

I don't have it open but IIRC these were division level plus their other works had higher level organizations. Follow the link. Plus on Yahoo Groups there is a TOE group.

I just downloaded the Micromark lists. Good stuff! Thanks for the pointer.

Alex you can download a 1989 NATO order of battle that includes a lot of information on all the neutral european nations including Finland at Pat Callagan's website here:

microarmormayhem.com

just follow the download links on the left hand side of the homepage.

It is mainly coy/bttn/bde level information.

The Yahoo TOE group has some info on mainly platoon level organisations for 70's to 90's but not a lot of higher level stuff.

There is also an old SPI Game called Nordkapp that deals with the hypothetical invasion of Norway/Sweden and northern Finland in the 1980's. That has a lot of detailed TOE's of Soviet, NATO and neutrals.

If you want to PM me I have a bit of stuff that may be useful to you.

The military balance books can sometimes help

You might find Red Sky White Light by Jason Weiser very useful. It covers nordic platoon forces with some details around the finnish army.

available at armiesarmy.com as a pdf download
