South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) announced today that the first Chamsuri II-class (project name PKX-B batch I) patrol boat has been delivered to the Republic of Korea Navy (ROK Navy).

PKMR 211 (for Patrol-boat Killer Medium Rocket – hull number 211) is the first vessel to be fitted with the LIG Nex1/Hanwha 130mm guided rocket launcher at the stern. The system was specifically design to counter swarming attacks of DPRK Navy (North Korea) fast attack crafts and hovercrafts.

They need it. When you have crazy &%!@#*& on your border you need to be vigilant and prepared.

The movie Northern Limit Line shows is about a gunboat battle in 2002.

206', 57- tons, 44 knots, crew of 40, 3m draft, 76mm gun, dual 40mm guns, a couple machine guns, some MAN-PADS, and the missiles.

The A Class ships have four quite nice anti-ship missiles that have either an AP warhead or a submunition warhead that can covering two football fields. The latter could disable swarms of attack boats or NK artillery batteries, if they're not organized well enough to operate dispersed. The B Class ships carry twelve of these missiles.

Really not bad for $37 USD million. It's not going to project power to the far side of the globe, but it's a great fighter. It has no really long range weapons and limited air defense, so it does seem kind of mission specific, but it's not supposed to be a whole navy, just a great little patrol boat.
