I've been looking for pictures that show fire escapes on pre- war and WW2 era buildings in Germany and countries east of Germany but can't find any. I've found plenty of pics showing them on buildings in New York at least as far back as the late 19th century. It would be a cool detail to put on scratch built buildings but I'd like to know if it would be historically accurate. Anyone know if this is more of an American thing rather than a European thing in that time period?

Never seen them in Germany or Denmark.
