:) Hello, a friend and I have decided to self publish a book on terrain building. Setting the Scene, Winter Wargaming, A guide to creating a winter layout for the games table. Might be of interest to those who game WWII skirmish games. The book is almost complete. I can post further information here if there is enough interest. Otherwise further information will be available here

That looks great – I am very interested. Do you have a date on when it will be available?

bobspruster31 Oct 2017 8:59 a.m. PST

Being from Maine in New England, I must say the terrain in the pics looks convincingly cold, wet and generally miserable enough for one to wish to be home in one's parlor. I wish you both luck and will get my copy as soon as I know more and can sneak a purchase by Wifey.

Already posted my interest over at Pat's site. I've been waiting since the start to buy a copy of this book, so I'm very excited to hear it's close to publication.

Rhysius Cambrensis01 Nov 2017 2:18 a.m. PST

I am definitely interested and will be buying the book when published. Happy to pre-order now!

GReg BRad01 Nov 2017 2:33 a.m. PST

Any chance of pdf purchases?

Fish01 Nov 2017 2:38 a.m. PST

To me (as a Finn who is way used to snow and winter weather) those wintery pics look extremely convincing!

Any idea how much the book appropriately will cost?

I'm really keen on buying one!
(might be interested in getting it on the shelves on the hobby store chain I work for as a buyer…)

This is very interesting. If you are self publishing, how many do you need to commit to?

kippryon06 Nov 2017 6:25 a.m. PST

I want one too.

Thanks for all of the interest in Pat's Terrain Book. Here is an update. The design/layout aspect of the book is now finished. Proofreading will be done this week and print proofing a week to 10 days after that. When we get proofs/dummies we can work out postage costs and final price of the book. In the next week or so I will post and give instructions of how you can sign up for a copy.
Nearly there!

Steve Lampon15 Nov 2017 7:38 a.m. PST

The Setting the Scene terrain book is finished and has been sent for proofing. Pat and I are now asking for those people who have previously shown interest to definitely commit to buying the book.

The price for the book is £17.50 GBP
UK postage 1st/2nd class is £1.74 GBP/£1.58
Europe £5.15 GBP
World Zone 1 £7.45 GBP (North & South America, Africa, Asia).
World Zone 2 £7.90 GBP (Australia, New Zealand, Singapore).

We are not asking for money yet, please just go to the special page that Pat has set up on his blog and state how many copies you want. We can then get a better idea of what the final print run will be, we will obviously print some 'overs' but we cannot afford to print too many. Here is the link.

We will be asking for payment when we send the book for the actual print run which will be in about 10-14 days time.

Steve Lampon29 Nov 2017 3:13 a.m. PST

Many thanks for all of those who have signed up for a copy of Pat's book. The book will go to press before the end of the week. We hope that the books will start going in the post during the week of 11th-15th December. Anybody who hasn't signed up has another few days to do so. Paypal invoices will start going out in the next few days. Please email me direct if you would like a copy with your paypal details and location. Many thanks. Steve. stevelampon at yahoo dot co dot uk. Obviously replace @'s and .'s where necessary.

Steve Lampon12 Jan 2018 8:19 a.m. PST

:) After a few hiccups the books have finally been delivered, most of the copies were pre-ordered but we did print some overs which are available now. Details are available here, if you would like a copy then please leave a comment at the bottom of the page.

Setting the Scene – SOLD OUT – Many thanks to everyone who supported the book, we sold the last copy yesterday. There are still a few orders trickling in, so Pat and I have to make a decision about reprinting. We have decided to see how much enthusiasm there is for a reprint by taking pre-orders again. If you have seen my previous posts and were undecided now is the time. Please email Pat at kerstinsmith1234@gmail.com to register your interest. For now we are just collecting names to see if the reprint is viable, we will let this run for a week or so. For information about price and postage go here link many thanks Steve

Pat and I are taking pre-orders for a reprint, we hope to send it to print at the end of this week, please email Pat if you would like a copy.

I received my copy today… Fabulous book. Absolutely breathtaking work. Your idea of winterizing buildings is brilliant. The only thing that kept me from trying to create a Winter scape before now was that it would have limited use. You show very convincingly how it can be achieved. Great stuff!!

I also received my copy yesterday (1/22): great format, logical presentation with high production value.

Looking forward to reading it.

Steve Lampon25 Jan 2018 6:22 a.m. PST

:) Thanks for the positive comments guys, we have enough numbers for the reprint now. The books will take about 10-14 days.

More information is here, link

Recommended! For those on the fence, I personally would say "go for it" – really excellent and fully professional, excellent guidance, tips, material suggestions, all fully illustrated.

Thanks Steve for a great book – when's the next one coming out…

TRUgamer25 Jan 2018 10:25 a.m. PST

You might want to reach out to On Military Matters to see if they would commit to a box of these to sell to their customers. Any publisher really… Just a thought.
