I have many reasons.

1. "I don't want one" is probably the most important. I ask people why I would want one. They proceed to tell me why "they" want one, which doesn't answer MY question.

2. I don't feel like posting all my stuff out there. Is it true that FB owns the copyright to anything I post?

3. I don't do cat videos.

4. I don't trust billionaires who can't be bothered to wear a suit and tie. Don't like his politics either.

JimDuncanUK29 Oct 2017 7:45 a.m. PST

I don't want one at all.

jurgenation Supporting Member of TMP29 Oct 2017 7:52 a.m. PST

Idid not at first..but now I can connect w/ friends past and a faster way to get news on wargaming.

I don't need one.

Personal logo Virtualscratchbuilder Supporting Member of TMP Fezian29 Oct 2017 8:10 a.m. PST

I have family all over the country and FB helps keep tabs. However, I do not feel compelled to tell them all what I am having for breakfast or what kind of mood I am in.

War Drone29 Oct 2017 8:26 a.m. PST

"Might" be an age thing, but I'm quite the geek in other respects. Even build my own computers from components. Just don't need/want FB (or Twitter for that matter …).

Project Vehemence29 Oct 2017 8:55 a.m. PST

I have two – a personal one and a business one.

The personal I can keep in touch with friends and family, especially international friends I meet through gaming, where its just not practical (time difference) or affordable to call.

The business one allows me to interact with clients, much as I do the other way around – I follow many sellers/manufacturers mini related. If they post a photo, preview of a new line etc you can directly ask questions there and then and get feedback from lots of other people who also follow the post.

14Bore29 Oct 2017 8:57 a.m. PST

Why yes, have no use for it.

Personal logo McKinstry Supporting Member of TMP Fezian29 Oct 2017 8:59 a.m. PST

I don't need or want one. Also no Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram. Just my opinion but much/most of social media seems vacuous, self-indulgent or vile.

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP29 Oct 2017 9:03 a.m. PST

Don't want one. If you want to get in touch with me, e-mail me or call me.

Disco Joe29 Oct 2017 9:04 a.m. PST

I don't want one nor understand why I would need one.

PJ ONeill29 Oct 2017 9:08 a.m. PST

Agree- McKinstry, but I have found and speak to old friends that I would not have found otherwise.

bobspruster29 Oct 2017 9:28 a.m. PST

I do refuse. Wifey has one to keep tabs on the family.

Son of MOOG29 Oct 2017 9:41 a.m. PST

I don't have one and have no desire to get one.

steamingdave4729 Oct 2017 9:41 a.m. PST

Resusted it for many years, but the club I belonged to decided to set one up and it made it easy to arrange games etc. Rarely post personal stuff, but there are several forums for rule sets that I like, so worth it for those. Possible to ieep your posts private, so only those who need to see them do.

FusilierDan Supporting Member of TMP29 Oct 2017 9:52 a.m. PST

No. I have one and it allows me to follow other pages that I'm interested in. I've a minimum of personal info on my page and no friends.

Wackmole929 Oct 2017 10:19 a.m. PST

What purpose does it serve? I think it is a giant waste of time. Your time is valuable and Shouldn't be wasted.

Rudysnelson29 Oct 2017 10:21 a.m. PST

I have one. Great way to ke p in contact with family, friends, clients and students.

King Monkey29 Oct 2017 10:59 a.m. PST

Not so much refuse, just can't think of a reason why I need one.

skipper John29 Oct 2017 11:00 a.m. PST

Lots of gaming groups and gamer's have face-book pages that I could never go to and explore. I made up a name and now have an account. I can go anywhere and no one knows. And I can't remember ever going to my own made up name page!! Perfect!

general btsherman29 Oct 2017 11:09 a.m. PST

In the last few months facebook has become my go to place for wargaming. Lots of great groups. Best of all it doesn't breakdown.

Greg G129 Oct 2017 11:34 a.m. PST

I had one, and had a friend send so much crap which clogged up my computer, that I left. Leaving is made as hard as Facebook can make it, with e-mails asking why you left and would you like to re-join. Also had loads of people unknown to me asking to be "friends". However I must admit that the 6mm wargaming and terrain Facebook page has tempted me into thinking about re-joining.

Garryowen Supporting Member of TMP29 Oct 2017 11:48 a.m. PST

I don't want or have one. I don't have the time for it. Too many figures to paint, too much terrain to make, too many good books to read.

Dynaman878929 Oct 2017 12:00 p.m. PST

I don't care if you don't want one, not having one doesn't make you superior to anyone else either.

LBJ195629 Oct 2017 12:01 p.m. PST

Bragging about not having social media and how vacuous it is, is just as self absorbed as posting what you had to eat or when you took a dump. If you like/use it or not nobody else should really care. FB can be great for putting out info to large groups like my kids high school marching band and our community page. Like any technology it has good and bad points.

USAFpilot29 Oct 2017 1:32 p.m. PST

Facebook is what you make of it. Like when television was invented. TV is mostly a vast wasteland of junk shows, but it also showed the world the first Moon landing.

Buck21529 Oct 2017 1:44 p.m. PST

Yes! I am a private person (not snobbish), and have no interest in letting anyone and everyone know every thing that I do, no matter how minute. Also, I have enough things in my life to keep me busy, and sitting at a computer for hours on end telling people what I did/didn't do two hours ago is not a good use of time. Gotta go, now…

Berzerker7329 Oct 2017 1:49 p.m. PST

No need for it.

Porthos29 Oct 2017 1:56 p.m. PST

I love it. My daughter and one of my daughters in law (I have two sons)often post pictures of my (now six) grandchildren ! There are various interesting groups I have joined (about Dutch history) and several maufacturers show their new products (like, for instance, Khurasan who was banned from TMP but still makes great figures.
USAFpilot: I LOVED your comment !

I don't refuse to have one. I don't need one for me, so I don't have one. I have one for Irrational Number Line Games, LLC. And a Google+ page. SWMBO (who owns the LLC) runs them.

It's no more a "refusal" than the reason I don't own a pair of pinking shears.

I prefer to make persons wishing to pry into my private life actually work for a living.

McWong7329 Oct 2017 3:57 p.m. PST

A lot of my work involves data marketing, been in the field since 1999. I use facebook marketing products heavily. I rely on the level of information facebook provides on people.

I would never, ever have a facebook account. Your entire life is available to me whether you want to share it or not.

jdpintex29 Oct 2017 4:21 p.m. PST

Don't have one, don't need one, don't care to have one, see no reason to have one. Double down for that stupid twitter too.

KSmyth29 Oct 2017 4:57 p.m. PST

I have one, but know many others that don't. I totally understand why many don't have them and don't want them. But I have lots of friends and family scattered about, and it lets me stay in contact with former students.

I have a Twitter account, but almost never use it or check it. 140 characters isn't enough to say anything intelligent. If you don't believe me . . .

TMPWargamerabbit29 Oct 2017 5:18 p.m. PST

Haven't needed, or desired, or have the time to waste on a FB page. My sons know I have no FB pages or presence so if they want their inheritance…better send photos of the grand daughter via standard systems everybody uses. So no page on FB for me. As for groups which only post and publish everything on FB…. you are missing a larger portion of your miniature gaming world then you think.

Also.. no Twitter account either.

War Drone29 Oct 2017 5:36 p.m. PST

@McWong: "A lot of my work involves data marketing, been in the field since 1999.

So it was "you" all along … ,-)

Allen5729 Oct 2017 7:40 p.m. PST

I think I might have one. Know that sounds odd but I registered for one to look at a gaming page. Found it of no interest and ignored it. A couple years later I was looking at something and clicked a link which went to Facebook and asked me to sign in. I did so and tried to delete the account. Don't think it worked. Have never been back. My wife has an account which she reviews constantly. She shows me pics of our grand kids which I like but I don't feel I need an account.

Ooh Rah29 Oct 2017 8:05 p.m. PST

Love FB for keeping up with photos and videos of my grandsons posted by my daughter and son-in-law. They live across country, so FB is a great way to keep in touch. I don't use FB for anything else though.

Yes for the same reasons as WS.

Personal logo Parzival Supporting Member of TMP29 Oct 2017 9:24 p.m. PST

I have one for (eventual) professional purposes as well as contact with distant friends from pre-'90s pre-email days, but rarely ever post anything on it. Maybe twice a year? Otherwise, I ignore it.

Cyrus the Great29 Oct 2017 10:26 p.m. PST

So far I have resisted. A lot of manufacturers have FB pages. Originally, I thought they'd use them to drive customers to their websites, but I see more and more content on their FB pages that may take weeks to appear on their websites. As a matter of fact, several only use FB with no other website and have special promotions for liking them on FB.
A special shout out to Winston Smith far sharing.

Nope. Bad enough that I have a smart phone :/

McWong7330 Oct 2017 3:19 a.m. PST

@War Drone, you have no idea! ;)

WarWizard30 Oct 2017 3:20 a.m. PST

I have never had one so far. It seems to me those that do either post stuff their bragging about or stuff their complaining and whining about. Then you constantly have to worry about friend requests, and you get loads of junk email. NO THANKS. No Snapchat, Twitter crap either. I couldn't be bothered.

Muncehead30 Oct 2017 3:45 a.m. PST

Making up a name is the way I joined facebook. There are some great gaming groups for inspiration but otherwise for me there are the cute puppy videos too……..

7th Va Cavalry30 Oct 2017 4:17 a.m. PST

Never had one, never will. I really never even wanted a cell phone. As a matter of fact I wish the days of TV going off air at 2am and cartoons only on Saturday would return also. You always hear stories of all the lives reconnected by Facebook/Social Media. I'm curios, how many lives has it destroyed?

McWong7330 Oct 2017 5:00 a.m. PST

I think the important consideration to make when you join any social service isn't what you use it for, but what the platform uses you for. If you're comfortable with the exchange go for it!

Ottoathome30 Oct 2017 5:28 a.m. PST

Worthless.

My friends call me when they have something to say as I do them. And that's on a land line. I don't even have a cell phone.

There's probably a lot of overlap in those two sets of relationships. :)

I don't need it for business, and anyone I want to communicate with has my phone number and email address.

Besides, I spend enough time hanging out on The Miniatures Page. I don't need, or have time for, a second place.
