Have you ever gamed Afghanistan with a veteran of Afghanistan?

Apache 627 Oct 2017 9:38 p.m. PST

Yes. I'm an Afghanistan veteran, and I've gamed with others.

Yes.

Though it was 1898 Afghanistan. He commented that my colors for the Pathans was about perfect, just needed a few extra colors for the different tribes.

No, but Vietnam with a Vietnam veteran.

Yes. I have the good fortune, thanks to FB, to talk to my friend when he is on base. He has plenty of project ideas for when he comes back that we are planning together.

Plenty of Afghanistan and Iraq vets at my old club played just about everything. Everyone reacts differently to what they game after experiencing the horrors of warfare. One of my good friends saw a lot of combat in Vietnam, so he doesn't play anything past a musket. Others have no problem. You see this in the video game world. Games that are ultra simulations (Squad and Arma in particular) have a lot of vets building communities and actively playing.

No. Too many bad memories. Still have nightmares.

When I get around to painting up some Taliban to go with my British we'll be playing quite a bit, doesn't bother me in the slightest.

willthepiper29 Oct 2017 5:40 p.m. PST

I'm not a veteran, but I gamed NWF when I was in Kandahar a few years ago. One of the guys I gamed with was a veterinarian (a different kind of 'vet').

Yes. Several in my gaming group.
